The structure of the complex interaction affects “feeling of comfort” in foods. In the greenhouse melon is branding, “best eating”, “desire to purchase” is important in Kansei evaluation. The purpose of this research is to make clear the influence “best eating” and “desire to purchase” by analyzing the results of Kansei evaluation in greenhouse melon. Because the complex interaction with evaluations is influenced by the characteristic to Greenhouse Melon, and the trend of purchasing evaluations is different, it is necessary to analyze the interaction with Principal Component Analysis, Graphical Modeling and Discriminant Analysis. The sample is different four kinds of Greenhouse Melon on the hammering test. The results suggest that the structural analysis with Graphical Modeling and Discriminant Analysis is useful in branding.
This paper proposes a new non-task-oriented dialogue system with humor considering utterances polarity. In order to make use of humor effectively in a dialogue system, consideration of the user's situation and selection of suitable kind of humor at a suitable timing are important. To estimate the user's situation as precise as possible, emotional element, the polarity (positive, negative, or neutral), grammatical information and the style of utterance are considered in the proposed system. Then, humor is classified from a viewpoint of psychology to select the appropriate kind of humor. Fundamental knowledge to generate suitable humor at a suitable timing is obtained thorough preliminary experiments. In addition, dictionary to generate humor is enhanced. We implemented a new system and compared it with the conventional one by experiments and the effectiveness of the proposed system has been shown.
Persona method is very effective method to improve customer's satisfaction. And, personas are suitable for development of BtoC (Business to Consumer) products. Facility personas are an idea that extends personas to development for BtoB (Business to Business) products. Facilities personas are personas that added organization model, facilities model and other items to conventional personas. By using facility personas, we can discuss not only about usability but also about specifications as function and performance. In this paper, we reported about how to build and how to use facility personas.
This paper proposes a method to detect attractive phrases from musical lyrics. The method considers not only acoustic but also lyrical features which attract human attention. Through the interview on impression for lyrics, we have found that “uniqueness of co-occurred terms” and “repetition” significantly influence human attraction. Therefore, we modeled these linguistic expressions as mathematical features. The proposed method detected attractive phrases using support vector machine with the modeled features. The results of the model evaluation experiments showed the 69% accuracy and 86% precision. Moreover, the results were compared and discussed with the key sentences detected by the existing summarization methods. As the result of comparison, it is confirmed that the proposed method detected attractive phrases more accurate than the existing summarization methods.
This research aims to clarify the universal rules of the sense of beauty to multi-color stimuli by establishing a computational model specifying the relationships between the initial color information of multi-color stimuli and the aesthetic evaluation. In order to obtain the empirical data based on which the future computational system can be established, two psychological experiments have been conducted using Semantic Differential method. The design of the experiments is based on Leder's psychological model. In Experiment I, three factors, namely “Pleasure”, “Activity” and “Potency”, are extracted. The aesthetic evaluation values for every stimulus are defined as their factor scores (inverse) on Pleasure factor. In Experiment II, five factors, namely “Vividness”, “Complexity”, “Gentleness”, “Strength” and “Wetness”, are extracted. Each of them is regarded as corresponding to a simple visual feature.
The objective of this study is to verify the hypothesis “that there is a kind of infrastructure design that people never gets tired of”. In order to examine such a kind of design, a general survey on its images were carried out to show the differences between products and civil infrastructures. Similar sensitivities of the evaluation resulting from a factor analysis are selected and it was shown that, in civil engineering structures, boredom, with progress of time, is classified in the same evaluation axis as in the harmonized cases. Applying the factor analysis results to an arch bridge, a tendency was similar to that of a girder bridge was confirmed. Through the Quantification Theory one analysis it was shown that there is an item / category that is common to different subjects when design that people never gets tired of is performed.
This paper proposes a system that generates posters reflecting impression expressed by an adjective. The present system is composed of three parts: An impression estimate part, a poster generation part, and a poster modification part. The impression estimate part estimates an inputted impression word as an impression value. The poster generation part designs a poster integrating color scheme and fonts according to the impression value of an inputted impression word. Impression spaces are obtained using factor analysis of the data obtained in pre-experiments. The poster modification part uses the spaces to modify fonts and color scheme. Poster arrangements are modified by the combination of the method of cost functions and a rough sketch method by free-hand drawings. The validity of the system is confirmed by the subject experiments.
This is a preparatory report of the study on the cognitive characteristics of color names in the congenitally blind. We conducted following two surveys on fifteen congenital blind persons to measure resemblance among color terms in the congenitally blind: (1) Ten participants were asked to recall color names similar to displayed color names which was also(originally)recalled by the participants. (2) Participants judged the similarities of all pairs of color names corresponding to 16 color names; siro, kuro, aka, ki, midori, ao, tya, murasaki, orange, pink, hai, kon, hada, mizu, sora, kimidori. For each of these names selected from recalled color vocabulary survey. The results show that the characteristics of congenital blind persons' color representations were absence of hue ordering seen in sighted people. Instead of hue ordering, multiple hue groups containing perceptually close color terms were identified; dark, light, warm, cool. This grouping could be explained through categorization process in Kay & McDaniel's modified basic term theory.
Since foodservice companies are the special situations where treat foods and a food hygiene problem is not avoided, solicitation of ecology is difficult for it. Therefore they are not rated at brand about ecology and they don't know how to announce information of ecology. We did a questionnaire survey of awareness about ecology to university students who will live in the next generation. We learned the greater part of university students want to make use of the restaurant which is rather expensive, if they reduce food waste and realize “recycle”. “Recycle” is beginning, but “reduce of food waste” is a problem. And we learned that it is possible to reduce food waste by use of “visualization system” and “demand prediction”. We showed it is possible in foodservice companies to do “ECO BRANDING”. Additionally, cooperation with a business partner, systematization of equipment was pointed out as a keyword of future branding promotion.
Previous studies have shown that hearing-impaired people have difficulty understanding several public information symbols. In this study, we show how public information symbols should be improved for easy understanding by hearing-impaired people. By incorporating the opinions of hearing-impaired students specializing in design courses, we develop ideas to revise public information symbols that are difficult for hearing-impaired people to understand. Next, we assess the comprehensibility of these ideas among both hearing-impaired students and students with normal hearing. Based on the evaluation results, five types of amendments are proposed. It is thought that hearing-impaired children and students have difficulty grasping abstract concepts. Our results show that hearing-impaired students are more likely than students with normal hearing to prefer more descriptive signs rather than more symbolic signs consisting of few shape elements.
We have developed a computer-based tourist map system grounded in the way people associate affective words with color impressions in relation to tourist attractions. This study examines such associations through two psychological experiments and discusses further possibilities for our tourist map system. In the first experiment, we examined simple and direct associations between affective words and color impressions related to a tourist attraction. In the second experiment, we examined what kind of representation mediated such associations. The results indicated that an affective word could be tagged to a specific color and gray-scale level in relation to a tourist attraction, and that the color images of some affective words could be related to color images of tourist attractions evoked by those words. We finally discuss the potential for development of our tourist map system based on the results.
In product development, a method of cost cutting is required for manufacturing prototypes. Based on our recent research, we propose a low-cost prototyping system for subjective evaluation using a virtual environment. We call this method “Virtual prototyping using Kansei evaluation”. We determine the surface roughness and orientation, surface reflectance and transmission of surface-finished papers. Measured data are analyzed using directional statistics and subjective evaluation of surface-finished papers. As a result, we obtain the surface roughness and orientation, as well as the directional intensity of the surface-finished papers. We described the Kansei structures of subjective evaluation “thin”, “weighty”, “airy”, “hard”, and “tender” from kurtosis and luminance of surface reflections and transmissions. Using these techniques, it is possible to create surface appearances for virtual prototyping.
Bali's culture is closely connected with water as seen in the convention in which Balinese Hinduism is referred to as Agama Tirtha (religion of holy water). However, even Subak, the traditional irrigation system lays heavy emphasis on the importance of water, is facing the threat of elimination or abandonment, which leads to concerns regarding the diminishing respect for water. This article examines ways in which “Kansei to the water” has been developed, focusing on the Pura Tirtha Empul temple. The spring in the temple compound supplies highly sacred Tirtha, and it is a source of the River Pakerisan, which has many Subak systems in its course. This article analyzes the legend about Indra, which describes the origin of the spring, the arrangement of the temple complex, and narratives of water in order to investigate Kansei to the water.
In this paper, the author discusses a theme of “Thetical and Antithetical Business Management.” The thetical business management signifies “a management style minimizes an objective function, which expresses consumers' expenditure of service goods, with holding a constraint condition, which expresses guaranteed level of expenditure.” While the antithetical business management is “a management style maximize an objective function, which expresses consumers' satisfaction concerning service goods, with holding a constraint condition, which expresses limits of their service goods expenditure.” In other words, the thetical business management can be formulated as a Primal Problem of Linear Programming, whereas the antithetical business management as its Dual Problem of Linear Programming.
A person who is struck by deep grief due to the loss of, or unwanted separation from, his/her family, spouse or the one he/she loves is believed to take a long and gradual recovery process from the state of severe mental suffering. This study conducted interviews on ten people who went through such experience to find out how their painful loss or separation took place, their psychological states, their actions in the process of recovery afterwards, the psychological change brought about by such actions, etc. The result found that the activities recognized by the sufferers as effective in facilitating the recovery process included “creative activities, such as painting, crafting, writing, etc.” along with “social activities, such as works and volunteering”, “communications with close friends and relatives”, etc. The creative activities referred here are voluntary ones and exclude “art therapy” implemented as a part of psychotherapy.
When a company or an individual disseminate their information on advertising and sales promotion. Between several people who is a client and a designer or a designer and an illustrator and a photographer have a scene to share the visual image. In the transmission communication of visual image, onomatopoeia is able to convey information with a sense of reality. Onomatopoeia because the words that are interpreted by the sense modality. (the sense modality : Visual, Auditory, Olfactory, Gustatory, Tactual) Therefore, in this study, it was intended from association with sensory modality of onomatopoeia in the transfer communication of visual image, and to clarify the relational structure of onomatopoeia. Elucidation of the semantic structure was included ambiguity of onomatopoeia. It will enable the discussion about how to use and understandable meaning of onomatopoeia. The onomatopoeia of 200 words were investigated by the MD method and analyzed using the SS analysis and cluster analysis. And we assume that the semantic interpretation is determined by the strength of the association of the Modal. I discussed the rank structure. As a result, it is considered onomatopoeia of the group that there is a direction of understanding meaning is effective communication to convey the impression with vague. In addition, differences were observed in the technique of description and usage, selection onomatopoeia between expert and novice. It depends on skills and knowledge.
Comic has, recently, been known as one of the most beloved entertainment and affective medium in the world. This paper describes about extraction of Kansei highlight from comic using social data. There seems to be Kansei highlight that most people approve in comic, because several related books where impressive scenes and captions for a comic are gathered are published. Through the experiments on impressions, we obtained social data for comics. We used the social data to extract Kansei highlight from comic. Through the three types of experiments, we confirmed that social data was available for extracting Kansei highlight from comic. Moreover, we designed the interface of social reading system for comic considering interaction on existing social service. We believe that the extraction of Kansei highlight from comic using social data increases attraction of digital comic.
Sharing and managing knowledge on human Kansei obtained in several study fields are of growing significance to providing product's values focused on customers. However, few sufficiently-advanced technologies that realize such knowledge sharing and management have been established. One typical approach is to clarify and systematize concepts as an ontology. In the current study, we developed an ontology to describe correspondence of affective meaning spaces analyzed by semantic differential method. First, we collect literatures reveal the affective meaning evaluated through the five senses and their inter-modality. Second, we described the concepts on the basis of an ontology of color emotions. Then, we demonstrated and evaluated the usefulness of the ontology in a design situation. As a result, we confirmed that the ontology will serve as a useful reference and be of assistance to designers.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that enhance showering comfort, except water flow, analyzing how to assess showering comfort. In this paper, we tried to describe “comfortable conditions” using shower feeling perceptions in Japan and Taiwan. In addition, we compared and reviewed these factors. We conducted shower tests with 9 showerheads and assessed the perception and comfortableness of each shower feeling. We analyzed the assessment data using factor analysis and linear regression analysis, Japanese and Taiwanese comfortableness, and the perception regarding spray stimulation represented by quadratic functions. Furthermore, we looked at Japanese comfortableness and the perception regarding warmth of spray, Taiwanese comfortableness and the perception regarding water stream density. The results show that the factors that enhance showering comfort are warmth of spray in Japan, water stream density in Taiwan, and spray stimulation in Japan and Taiwan. Furthermore, it was considered that these factors were affected by the bathing habits of the respective countries.
This is research on “Pause” in the speech language producing from a printed book by Transliteration Person: Transliteration Person produces a talking book for visually-impaired people from a printed book. “Pause” on the speech language is required faithful to original printed book, because Transliteration Person has to reproduce the author's intention. So we experimented in how to use “Pause” on the speech language with Transliteration Person. As a result, it was shown that “Short Pause” inserted by Transliteration Person is important to produce faithful talking book from original printed book: “Short Pause” is 0.5 second or less. In the future work, we would like to show clearly that “Short Pause” is concerned with comfortable rhythm and tempo for faithful speech language from original printed book.
In this study, we focused on lighting and odor which were considered as important elements of in-store marketing. In online stores, product photographs are important tools of transmitting information of products to consumers and the lighting in photographs will have relationship with purchasing intention. Odor is also considered as one of the marketing tools of online stores in future. If the olfactory display system is installed on PCs, sellers can provide odor to consumers through the Internet. Therefore, we carried out an experiment in which participants give scores to the lighting in photographs of a mug cup and the degree of purchasing intention to the cup. When two-thirds of participants did the task, aromas of lavender or peppermint were diffused, and the condition for other one-third participants was without aroma. As a result, we found that the lighting and the odor effect the purchasing intention significantly.
Creating beautiful curves of the forehead is considered to be the key to achieve optimal outcome of craniofacial plastic surgical reconstruction. However only subjective, or artistic techniques have been proposed in the past, therefore the outcomes of reconstruction seem to be entirely dependent on surgeon's ‘kansei’ or skills. Thus the aim our study were to analyze the curves of the forehead in 50 normal Japanese women, and classify the curves to create as a guide for total forehead reconstruction. To characterize the individual nature of the complex forehead curves, two key lines were abstracted from 3D data. Based on profile of curvature analysis, forehead curves were classified into 6 types in horizontal section line, and 2 types in meridian line. These classification were then used to develop curve templates as a guide for forehead construction. We applied these curve templates in complex craniofacial reconstruction and found that the outcome is very promising.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the sensitive elements which affects sustainability of NPO Corporation management. We analyzed the data of hearing survey using the text-mining methods, extracted the main elements about “troubles in operation,” “actions for solution,” and “achievements,” and searched for the relevance between the sustainability and the elements. We found that, In addition to the economic challenges, the efforts of training staffs, the scheme of raising name values, and the achievement in improving motivation also have influence on the sustainable development. And we finally got a conclusion that when facing difficulties in management, identifying the problem clearly and trying various measures leads to the improvement of staff motivation. And this process was also the characteristic of sustainable development of NPO Corporation.
We examined how changes in participants' heart rate affect their estimation of time when listening to music. We manipulated participants' heart rate using a cycling task on an exercise bike and by varying the tempo of music. The heart rates of 48 participants were measured before and after the pedaling task on the exercise bike. One week later, they listened to the music and estimated the temporal duration (60 seconds) under the non-manipulated condition (without exercise) and heart rate manipulated condition (with exercise). The results showed that the duration of the music (60 seconds) was underestimated after light exercise and overestimated after strenuous exercise. These results suggest that the acceleration of the internal time mechanism due to an increase in the heart rate affects the perceived duration of time with relation to music.
In terms of research into chat interfaces, prior research includes studies applicable to the reader's side, aimed at reducing the reader's perceived waiting time. However, this paper focuses on the writer's side. Content from live video seminars typically contains greetings and salutations uttered by participants. These salutations were removed first from the data in order to eliminate noise, before starting the analysis. The sentences within each chat utterance were analyzed, and the results indicate that approximately 90% of those utterances are less than 20 characters long, and approximately 54% of them are less than 10 characters in length. In addition, this research analyzed the structure of the sentences, and the results show that utterances comprising of two or more sentences tend to include questions. However, at the same time, this has also highlighted the issue that these types of sentences tend to hinder synchronization within the webinar.
Evaluating supply chain management is important because it helps to find out supply chain's weakness. Customers' satisfactions is one of important topics because a propose of supply chain management is to satisfy customers requirements. If an organization lacks satisfaction of customer needs, it will lose an opportunity in business. Usually, agricultural supply chain consists of a manufacture and several suppliers. In this case, the manufacture has to evaluate performances of chains with possible suppliers. The manufacture may replace some suppliers to improve their customers' satisfactions. However, the current evaluate methods cannot be used such usage because the methods cannot consider a situation in which some suppliers are replaced. Therefore, a new evaluation model is proposed. The proposed model allows the users to inspect a chain's efficiency with considering to replace some of supply chain suppliers. In order to show the ability of the method, a case study of Thai frozen shrimp industry is shown and the results is discussed.
The items to be considered when we are installing signboards, which can be mentioned the following five items: (a) Content, (b) Color, (c) Size, (d) Visual, (e) Installation place. In this paper, we consider the installation place of the sign board in a certain region. In this case, we have been considered basic using Voronoi diagram in the computational geometry. First, from the nature of the Voronoi diagram, we give a basic structure of the model territory of signage. We show the interpretation of the Voronoi diagram and destination sign on the map. In addition, to give a definition of turf signage, and further showing the basic steps of the Voronoi tessellation. We show the divided simulation to Voronoi regions whose base point the installation position of a field standing signboard. Also we give an algorithm for the optimal placement of the area that is not installed the sign yet.
Noting the distortion as a result of the uniqueness of handwork, the purpose of this research is to investigate the effects of hand drawing as related to pattern design. The results of our preceding research showed that the difference of drawing process affected the impression of evaluation for stripe patterns. To explore further the characteristic effects of distorted lines in evaluation, we conducted a comparative experiments using five basic patterns selected from a preliminary experiment. Each pattern was drawn by hand and computer-software (illustratorCS6) ; hence each examinee evaluated 10 patterns in total : six geometric patterns and four flower patterns. As a result of principal component analysis, the main principal component analysis largely contributes to warmth and cheerfulness of lines, and also the beauty of lines consistency. The results of comparing the evaluations for the patterns identified some tendencies and features in impression structure of patterns.
