This paper describes the understanding of the hand spinning skill and the spinning method which is attempted using a robot manipulator based on observation. A hand part for sensing and measurement was developed. The intervals of the most suitable values of necessary parameters are determined by the preliminary experiments. Experimental results confirmed relation between the stabilization of yarn tension and noticeable movements of human hand during hand spinning. We performed robotic hand spinning by successfully and offered an assumption of the hand spinning skill using experimental results.
When infants are in their crawling stage, both mothers and infants experience difficulties while changing diapers. We evaluated the effects of pull-up type diaper on physical and psychological burden in comparison to the nappy-type diaper. Twenty-four mother-infant dyads participated in this study. According to the behavioral observation analysis, negative behaviors of mothers and infants while changing pull-up type diapers were significantly lesser than while changing the nappy-type. Pull-up type diapers took mothers 30% lesser time to change, while allowing infants more physical movements than the nappy-type. A spectral analysis of infants' heart rate variability showed that low-high frequency ratio and the change in normalized unit percentage (Nu%) were significantly lower when pull-up type diapers were changed. Negative emotion-related behaviors of both mothers and infants significantly correlated with change in Nu% of infants. Lower physical and psychological burden while changing diapers was associated with pull-up type diapers.
Field of Visual Perception (FVP) has been attracted as a method for quantitative evaluation of impression. In recently, FVP for digital images has been proposed, and the effectiveness has been confirmed. However, FVP has not been applied widely on the field of image processing by two reasons: (1) the calculation cost is too high, and (2) only calculation model for binary images has been established and it cannot be applied to grayscale images. This paper first proposes an acceleration method for increasing practicality. Next, instead of grayscale image, we verify the correctness and the effectiveness of applying FVP to halftone image, which is binary image converted from grayscale image without discomfort. The experimental results showed that the calculation cost decreased to 0.01% at least. Moreover, the results of applying FVP to halftone images showed both of the difficulties and the potentialities for evaluating impression.
While consumer's sense of values was changing a lot in recent years, we verified whether the new benchmark taste as “leading-edge” contribute to a brand value improvement. It was investigated about 4 categories of a car, home electric appliances, daily necessaries and a beverage, and principal component analysis was performed. The result with the effective both of functional and semantic customer value could get 4 categories in brand loyalty as a result of the principal component analysis. Especially, it was verified that contribution is also large in a functional customer value as well as a semantic customer value for a taste element of “leading-edge” in a car and home electric appliances categories which are high choice preference. We pointed out that there is a possibility which becomes the important image which guarantee of products quality in a functional customer value for corresponding to today's technology and being a “leading-edge”.
The history of e-books has been around for about 30 years.In recent years the spread of the Internet has greatly expanded e-books. Manufacture and salse of e-books themselves are established as business. For that reason, many discussions have been conducted since the appearance of electronic books. We classify the generation of e-book business based on contents, distribution form and transition of content reproduction device. And we proposed ways to analyze the characteristics of e-books and their businesses based on the generations. In this paper, we analyzed what kind of research literature has been published for each generation.As a result, characteristics of literature for each generation which can be categorized by whether it relates to the content itself, its peripheral technology, production related to publication or consumption, were observed.
Yuki-tsumugi is a traditional silk-weaving technique found principally in Yuki City and Oyama City, along the Kinu River, north of Tokyo. The purpose of this study is to investigate major characteristics of Yuki-tsumugi by subjective evaluation and physical properties. We carried out sensory inspection to evaluate tactile sensation of Yuki-tsumugi by the SD method comparing fabrics produced in other areas. In an experiment, we used 11 fabrics and employed 20 subjects of university student as unfamiliar consumer of Japanese dress Kimono. As a result, it was clarified that Yuki-tsumugi was lighter, bulkier and warmer than other fabrics, especially Oshima-tsumugi and Meisen. Furthermore, a correlation between tactile characteristics of “fluffiness” and “warmth” and mechanical properties was shown.
Interictal paroxysmal rhythmic activity can appear in electroencephalography (EEG) in patients with mental disorders. The abnormal EEG were analyzed by wavelet-crosscorrelation analysis. The EEG were categorized as following: 2-4 seconds (A) and 0-2 seconds (B) before the appearance of the abnormal EEG; 2 seconds during the abnormal EEG (C); 0-2 seconds (D) and 2-4 seconds (E) after the abnormal EEG. Wavelet-crosscorrelation coefficients (WCC) in the theta and alpha bands for each segment were calculated in all patients. The results in the theta band showed that the abnormal connections between the sites in the brain could continue although the EEG seemingly recovered from the interictal paroxysmal rhythmic activity. The results in the alpha band showed that the normal connections between the sites in the brain could be weakened in the 2 seconds prior to the beginning of the interictal paroxysmal rhythmic activity in the EEG.
This study investigated the effect of shape of words balloon on SNARC effect, which participants reacted to large numbers faster with the choice on the right, whereas the reverse relationship held true for small numbers. Dehaene et al. (1993) revealed that the SNARC effect occurs by customs of reading. This study hypothesized the SNARC effect will be obstructed in a lengthways balloon because Japanese participants read from top to down in a lengthways balloon. We used Arabic numerals from 1 to 9 except for 5. Numerals were displayed in the sideways or lengthways balloon. Participants judged numerals were even or odd by pushing the corresponding keys. From the results, ordinary SNARC effect occurred when the sideways balloon displayed but SNARC effect didn't occur when the lengthways balloon was displayed. This finding ensured that the SNARC effect is influenced due to directions of reading caused by shape of wards balloon.
When a person tries to suppress an unpleasant thought, paradoxically, the thought is more likely to come to her/his mind (paradoxical effect of thought suppression). To avoid the paradoxical effect, people summon up pleasant thoughts (replacement thoughts). The present study investigated the temporal factor in the effectiveness of replacement thoughts (e.g., future plans or past memories) for suppressing unwanted thoughts of a past event. Results showed that there were no significant differences between thoughts of future plans and past memories to suppress thoughts of a past event. An additional analysis showed that replacement thoughts of temporally close contents (near future plans and recent past memories) were more suppress thoughts of a past unpleasant event than replacement thoughts of temporally distant contents (distant future plans and distant past memories). This finding suggests that the temporal factor of replacement thoughts contributes to the effectiveness for suppressing thoughts.
