    The working principle and experimental results about the measurement of contact area between metal and transparent material by the aid of total reflection of polarized ray were already reported (Kikaishikensho-shoho, 6, 1954, 215).
    A Considerably complete testing apparatus was designed as illustrated in Fig. 2. It simplified the operation of angle of incidence and the loading mechanism, etc. At first, such a measuring limit as recognized to be in contact was investigated. A pair of block gauges, having the difference of several microns of thickness between two gauges, was placed on an optical flat plate, and a glass prism was pressed on to them. It was clarified that the least distance to be discriminated was 0.02-0.03 as seen in Fig.3. Then some surfaces of machined parts were tested by this apparatus and the contact ratio concerning lapped cylinders was measured. From the series of experiments, designing conditions of apparatus for practical use were decided.

    In the previous paper we reported that if the cantact resistance R and the load W has a relationship of R-kW-c, the constant c is influenced by the surface roughness. i. e., the decrease of the height of surface irregularities derives the increase of the the constant value c.
    This is proved in this paper by the analysis of covariance.

    There is a difficulty in the mass-production of miniature ball bearings for clocks, watches and the other many meters, owing to much working accuracy and working method.
    Hence, in order to simplify the lapping process of the ball and to decrease the consumption of the filing plate, the ball blank of diametral length which was cut from suitable pianowire was fine-lapped after being rough-finished by special electro-polishing. And as to the simplification of shaping of the race, the race blank with a fit outer-screw and a shaping hole which was drilled and spherical-reamered was fine-finished by oscillation-lapping usingspherical cast-iron lap. In that case our miniature ball bearing was of C-type and with no-cage, and it was compared to a radial ball bearing as to the working accuracy by using the contour measuring projector, Metal microscope and optical surface measuring machine. Furthermore we compared our bearing to a pivot bearing regarding the static friction or dynamic solid and fluid friction measured by the damped vibrating method using the balancing wheel and spring, and found that our miniature ball bearing was better than a pivot bearing.

    In order to confirm the theoretical results developed in the preceding reports, the author made measurements of the escapement error.
    The experimental method devised by him makes possible to record both the amplitude and the period of the balance oscillation optically, and especially it has such large magnification of time that, in the case of the free oscillation without the escapement, the small variation of the period, in accordance with the amplitude damped by the friction, can be measured. The difference of the period measured with and without the escapement at the same amplitude gives the escapement error corresponding to that amplitude.
    Measurements were made in four cases of one pin-lever escapement and two lever escapements.
    The calculated values by the theories were compared with the corresponding measured values.
    The results showed that the theory of part I has fairly good qualitative applicability and that of part II quantitative.
