The efficiency of modified cycloid gear of self-recording clock used mainly for meteorological observation, was measured. The result obtained from this measurement, is that the mean efficiency is more than 90 % for each gearing.

It is very difficult to check accuracy of such large gears as used in ship turbine reduction mechanisms. The requirement of very high accuracy of these large gears, for example 4 or 5 meters of diameter, has recently been brought out and the accuracy measuring instruments for these large gears are becoming of much necessity.
The authors studied the instruments under the sponsorship of The Accuracy Committee of The Ship Machinery Manufacturers' Association of Japan, and have succeeded to make the accuracy-measuring instruments with satisfactory accuracy. These instruments are made to measure the accuracies of tooth profile, surface undulation and circular pitch of large gears, and have been practically used to measure reduction gears of ship. The preliminary test of single-flank gear tester was carried out.

Versuchsbau eines einfachen Gerätes zum raschen Aufzeichnen von Evolventen und Trokoiden mit Bleistift wird berichtet. Dieses Geräte erzeugt die Evolventen ihrer Definition gemäβ daβ die Evolvente der geometrische Ort eines Punktes an einem Faden gespannt entwickelt von einem Zylinder ist.
Der groβte Halbmesser des Grundkreises den dieser Evolventenzirkel aufzeichen kann ist 200 mm, und der groβte Krümmungshalbmesser der gezeichneten Kurve 170 mm × 2 (rechten und linken Evolventenast mit Rückkehrpunkt) oder 340 mm (einen Evolventenast). Die Genauigkeit der erzeugten Kurve ist genugend genau im Vergleich mit der Dicke der Linien die mit Bleistift beschrieben werden.

Applying a servo mechanism to the single flank gear mesh tester which was developed by us in 1960, we obtained a efficient mesh tester. By using only one set of datum circular plates, the single flank gear mesh test can be done easily and efficiently for any kinds of gear ratios of test gears and also for all types of test gears such as circular and noncircular gears.
The present tester can be used not only for testing fine pitch gears, but also for testing medium size ones, and furthermore it is able to reduce remarkably the time necessary for testing.
