    Experimental analysis of cavitation noise are made in the case of circuler cylinders by the new measuring apparatus of Selemosillator system. For the 3 different diameter (5, 8 and 10 mm φ) cylinders, the following results are obtained. 1) The sound pressure spectrum can be classified into four (AD) frequency bands, 2) Regenerativity are recognized for the mean sound pressure level in each sampling frequency. 3) Though the cavitation number kg are kept constant, the sound level rose with the increase of pressure and velocity. 4) For the same kd value, the greater the radius of curvature, the higher the sound level. 5) Generally, the sound level has a maximum value (in these cases kd=2.5), all over the kg value.

    In the previous paper, it is investigated the effect of lamellar cementite to experimentally make clear the machinability factors which affect significantly cutting results such as residual stresses and produced structure in machined surface layer. This paper describes the effect due to cementite content for grinding force, surface roughness, furthermore elastic-plastic deformation and produced structure in machined surface layer. As a result, grinding force, surface roughness and residual stresses in finished surface shows the optimum value at the volume fraction of 3.0×10-2 cementite and in steels containing 6.0×10-27.5×10-2 cementite a higher value, lowering in steels with more than containing 7.5×10-2 cementite. As the comentite content is increasing, residual stresses and plastic deformation in machined surface layer decrease gradually. Therefore, the orthogonal cutting and surface grinding shows a similar tendency on them.

    In order to clarify the function furnished by lapping compounds in a precision lapping process, a testing machine has been newly designed and built, by which the lapping resistance can be measured during a reciprocating operation. An experimental investigation is carried out in which a hardened steel surface having a roughness of around 0.11μ Rα is worked up to a roughness of around 0.025μ Rα. By analysing the trends of lapping resistance which are observed in various conditions of pressure and viscosity of the medium, the authors show that there exist two stationary values remarkable of the lapping resistance.
    The one is observed in certain ranges of higher pressure and the lower viscosity, where the compound behaves as if a constant coefficient of friction prevails in the working zone. Another is observed in certain ranges of lower pressure and the higher viscosity, where the compound behaves as if it were a simple viscous fluid and a constant shearing stress prevails in the working zone.
    It is suggested that the working performance of a lapping compound can be discriminated by recognizing these two stationary values of resistance as the criteria for working conditions.

    There are two kinds of worked surfaces turned with diamond tools. One of them is called iridescent surface and the other is called specular one. Moreover the iridescent surfaces are classified into glossy, ordinary, and white. The sections of turned surfaces have a periodic array of tri-angle which is made with feed of lathe and configurations of tools. It is made to examine the relation between the maximum heights of uneveness on the slopes of the triangular grooves (Umax) and the kind of turned surf aces.
    Some sumples are turned and the pitches and heights (Rmax) of the tri-angular grooves on them are constant but only Umax of them is changed. The Umax and the distributions of diffracted light intensity are measured with an interference microscope with total magnification 1000 times and an automatic recoding goniophotometer respectively. These samples are classified into each kinds of turned surfaces by 15 judges and the results are discussed with the observation of technique of sensory test.
    The classified kinds of iridescent surfaces are specular, glossy, ordinary and white according to ascending value of Umax. The psychological boundary between specular and glossy iridescent surfaces is definite comparatively, because only existence of iridescent light is judged mainly. The boundary is defined with the degree of smoothness of the slopes, in this case, it of Umax at a probability of 80% is 0.18μm. When Umax of a sample is smaller than 0.18μm, the sample is judged to be specular. The boundaries between glossy and ordinary, and white iridescent surfaces can not be defined. When the slopes are rougher than 0.40μm (in Umax), it becomes difficult to judge the intensity of iridescent light.

    中炭素鋼の研削性に及ぼす被削材温度 (-196~+600℃) の影響を平面研削盤を用いてプランジ方式により検討した.その結果をまとめるとっぎのようである.
    (1) 研削抵抗と砥石損耗はともに青熱ぜい性の起こる250℃~400℃の中間温度域で最大となる.したがって, この温度範囲以下あるいは以上の温度で研削することが望ましい.
    (2) 砥石の砥粒逃げ面摩耗面積率もこの温度域で最大となっており, また, 単粒摩耗実験においてもこの温度域で砥粒の摩耗が大きいことがわかった.これらのことより, 砥石損耗や研削抵抗がこの温度域で大きくなる原因は砥粒の座滅摩耗にあると思われる.抵抗が高いことからチッピングによる砥粒座耗も含まれているかも知れない.
    (3) 研削面あらさは被削材温度が高いほど大きい, この結果はダイヤモンド砥粒を用いて行なった単粒研削実験における盛り上りの測定結果とよく一致する.
    (4) 被削材表面の研削時の温度は被削材温度よりかなり高い.たとえば常温研削では350℃くらいで600℃研削では700℃付近になっている.

    A theoretical analysis is given on the non-linear maximum deflection of corrugated metallic diaphragms. In this analysis, two differential equations are obtained through application to these diaphragms of the large deflection theory of anisotropic circular plate.
    These defferential equations are solved by an approximate solution method. Namely, deflection equations coming from the pure bending theory are used as approximated equations.
    As a result, some algebraical equations of the non-linear deflection of the diaphragm with uniform load and with concentrated load at the center are obtained. Using these equations, the non-linear maximum deflection of the diaphragm can be calculated easily from such values as Young's modulus of material, thickness, diaphragm diameter and geometrical dimensions of corrugated waves.
    Many experiments perfomed on the actual diaphragm capsules prove that the experimental data thus got coincide with the theoretical values to a satisfactory degree.

    This paper treats the residual vibration of the typehead mechanism in a mechanical printer. The stable and high-speed positioning can be obtained by means of the cam profiles. reducing the residual vibration over a comparatively wide range of λ which is the ratio of duration of the rise period to the natural period of the follower system. The theoretical and experimental investigations are described of the residual vibration characteristics of a viscousdamped one-degree-of-freedom system subjected to the input corresponding to polydyne cams. The results obtained are as follows.
    (1) Besides the design value λα, the vibration disappears at λi (i=1, 2, …) which is peculiar to the polynomials with symmetrical displacement curve. Consequently it is possible to develop stable and high-speed cams by setting λα between λi and λi+1, This is verified by the experiments.
    (2) The vibration disappers even in viscous damped system through the use of the cam profiles designed taking account of viscous damping. The theory and experiment were in close agreement.

    In present paper, the factors affecting the scratch hardness of heat-treated steels, which is determined by the scratching test with the standard Vickers indenter, are considered. The results are summarized as follows : (1) In as-quenched steels or tempered ones at relatively low temperature, the scratch hardness is lower than the indentation hardness, but the former is higher than the latter in annealed steels or tempered ones at relatively high temperature. (2) The scratch hardness Hd is related to the scratching velocity ν over the velocity ranges of 2.3×10-3 to 10mm/s in as-quenched steels and of 2.3×10-3 to 2.3×10-1mm/s in annealed ones, respectively, by a relation of the form Hd=c0νn (c0, n : constant). (3) Hd is related to the grain size diameter d by a relation of the form Hd=Hdi+kd-1/2 (Hdi, k : constant).

    Two dimentional vibrational behaviors of the machine tool structure are analysed by using the finite element method. The method consists of the following three stages. First the two dimentional structure of a machine tool is idealized by the assembly of linear triangular elements whose stiffness and mass matrices are generated. In the second stage the eigenvalues and eigenvectors for the natural frequencies are obtained by minimizing the Rayleigh quotient by the use of the projection gradient method. Lastly from the eigenvalues and eigenvectors obtained the dynamic response of the structure is calculated by the mode superposition method. The method used in this research is very effective for analysis of complex structures such as machine tools due to the computer memory advantage. Structural examples of a radial drilling machine and jig boring machine are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.
