    The electrochemical removal amount of cemented carbide alloy and WC is treated in this paper, which is the second in a sequence of several papers, the first dealing with characteristic features under potentiostatic condition. It has frequently been observed that the electrochemical removal amount of cemented carbide varies from experiment to experiment. It was thought that this could be accounted for by the observation of ash grey residue at the anode surface in all experiments. On the basis of cathodic stripping studies, a method is developed to ensure to measure correctly the removal amount. It is found that the removal amount W is evaluated by W= Wα+ Wc, where Wα is anodic removal and Wc is anodic product which is residual on machined samples of cemented carbide and removed by cathodic stripping. In those experiments the value of Wc is 0.2 mg/min for P 20 alloy, and is 1 mg/min for K 40 alloy, which indicates a tendency to increase Wc as WC component in cemented carbide increases. A dissolution mechanism of WC is discussed and it is concluded that WC is dissolved with a valency of.9. The presence of WC in the dissolving product when machined with alternating current in NaNO3 electrolyte is identified by X-ray diffraction technique.

    Much of the analysis available as yet is not sufficiently accurate to be a criterion of quantitative estimation for the ground surface roughness with the effect of the dressing characteristics. This paper describes the relationship between the distribution of the cutting edges dressed by a single point dresser with a top of the general form and the posterior distribution and the relevant root mean square roughness on the ground surface roughness generated by random cutting edges under the less restrictive assumption. The relation of the dressing treatment to cutting procedure for estimating ground surface roughness is discussed. The method are illustrated with examples.

    The wear of abrasive grains on an alumina wheel is very large in grinding of glasses. One of the causes of this abrasive wear is presumed to be chemical actions at the contact interface. This study aims to obtain the fundamental data necessary for prevention of the tool wear, by means of wear experiments of sapphire on quartz glass and X-ray analyses of the wear debris. This paper reports the wear characteristics of sapphire and composition analyses of the wear debris collected. Main results obtained are as follows :
    (1) An “abrasive action” of worn glass particles promotes the sapphire wear. The environmental water vapor increases the wear of sapphire.
    (2) As-worn debris are amorphous to X-ray and change into mullite phase (3Al2O3·2SiO2) by heat treatment. The solid state reaction at contact points is considered to be the main cause of the “abrasive action”.
    (3) The formation of amorphous debris is mainly attributed to plastic deformation of reaction products at the time of their separation from the contact points.

    接触式変位測定器による寸法測定の手順及び操作を検討し, 計測器及び測定者の系から発生する誤差のモデルを定式化し, それを確認するための実験を行った.
    (1) 寸法値は本質的に二つの座標値の差として表されること, 及びこの座標値に入る誤差を偏りとばらつきに分離して表すことによって, 誤差のモデルを得た.それによると, 測定誤差は目盛付けの誤差, 最適値を捜す操作によって生ずる誤差, その他測定の機構により生ずる誤差に分けることができる.
    (2) 誤差のモデルに, 有効操作回数の概念を導入することによって, 最適値を捜す操作による誤差の一部が小さくなることを明らかにした.フィードバックによって誤差分散の一部は小さくなるが, 小さくならない部分があり, 測定のパフォーマンスにとってフィードバックはあまり意味がない.
    (3) 座標値の分布が測定機構上の制約によって打切り点をもてば, 寸法値の分布は正規分布からはずれ, とがりをもち, 右 (δ>0) にすそをひく形となる.
    (4) 以上の考察の結果は, 接触式変位測定器による, フィードバックの有無によるパフォーマンスの違いをみるための実験結果とよく一致した.

    Machining efficiency in rough turning of a bar stock is appreciably affected by the cut distribution especially when the part contour is complex. In this paper the technological algorism to optimize the cut distribution, which has been left ambiguous in NC automatic programming systems and machining data information systems, has been investigated. The study has revealed that in the case of rough. turning of a simple cylinder evenly distributed cut gives the maximum or quasi-maximum production rate regardless of the predetermined constraints. In the case of complex part contour, a simple and practical algorism to obtain the maximum efficiency has been proposed through partly theoretical approach. The algorism has been tested for a typical example of complex contour by comparing to the data obtained by a skilled part programmer and the feasibility of the algorism has been demonstrated.

    A statistical analysis was carried out on the properties of ground surface roughness curve, namely, the trough height (the height of the position of trough from the lowest standard line), the crest height (the height of the position of crest from the lowest standard line), the number of cuts (the number of the sections of ground surface profile intercepted by a line being parallel to the lowest standard line), and the cut length (the length of the section of ground surface profile intercepted by a line being parallel to the lowest standard line). In the analysis, the effects of following items were taken in account :
    (1) The distribution pattern of the grain cutting edge positions in the wheel surface layer.
    (2) The variation of the grain cutting edge tip angles in the wheel surface layer.
    (3) The thread generated on the wheel surface by dressing.
    Also the effect of grinding width (sampling length) on the maximum crest height and the maximum trough height was theoretically analyzed. Finally, some experiments of grinding operation were carried out to make measurements of ground surface roughness, and the validity of the authors' theoretical analysis was confirmed.

    A theoretical approach is presented to the plane theory of rolling contact with friction. An analysis is given of plastic deformation which affects elastic-plastic and residual stress fields in rolling contact. Some effects are discussed of sress fields due to tangential load. In case of static loads, because of friction the tensile zone of residual stress σχis constructed in the neighbourhood of the rear contact area, and the negative shearing residual stress zone is extended widely than that of positive one. The axial residual stress field σz is affected by the secondary plastic flow due to unloading. When the combined loads ran away the values of residual stresses do not vary because of friction, while the tangential load can be understood that specifies the depth of plastic zone.

    これまでに5種類の歩行について述べたが, ここで全体的にまとめてみる.
    垂直方向トータル反力はすべて双峰性を示し, 二つの峰は体重を越え, 谷は体重より低くなる.
    第1峰の高さは速度および歩行の種類によって大きく変動する.第1峰が高くなるのは, 平道の速足, 坂道下り, 階段下りで, 体重心の上下運動の速度変化が大きい場合である.
    3部分反力では, 足底前部の反力が最も大きい.踵は第1峰付近にピークを持ち, 階段上り以外は浮足の着床前に離床する.ピークの値は歩行の種類によって変動するが体重を越えることはない.踵からの着床は衝撃的である.指の反力は全体に低く, ピーク値は体重の10~30%の範囲にある.指の反力の約40%は親指が受持っている.指は足底前部の補助的な役割をしているといえる.
    水平反力は前半に減速力, 後半に加速力が現れる.これは, 車輪等で自重を支持するのでなく, 足によって支持し, 支持足の回転によって前進するような運動では必然的なものである.

    The performance of grinding wheel has a direct effect on grinding results and therefore a proper grinding wheel should be selected for better grinding results, based on a clear standard with which the performance of grinding wheel can quantitatively be evaluated. In this paper, the grindactivity coefficient of grinding wheel is introduced as a scientific standard for proper selection of grinding wheels in plunge grinding operation. The grindactivity coefficients are determined for some work materials with various kinds of grinding wheels, in which abrasive material, grain size and shape, structure, bonding material and grade are systematically changed. Then discussed are the relations between the grindactivity coefficient and grinding results such as wheel wear, stock removal, force and so on. It is proved that better grinding results can be obtained with higher grindactivity coefficient of grinding wheel and that the grindactivity coefficient can be a standard for proper selection of grinding wheels in plunge grinding operation.

    The paper presents several cutting models for three dimensional cutting with abrasive grains of single rake face. The models are designed for continuous chip formation, incomplete chip formation, and wall formation of partial chip or plastic upheaval along the groove cut. They consist of planes of velocity discontinuity and their deformation may be interpreted as a piling of plane plastic flow. Based upon the proposed cutting models, an energy method similar to the upper bound approach is developed, which enables to predict the deformation and the three components of cutting force by using the data in orthogonal cutting under equivalent cutting conditions. Preliminary examination shows the method is not only effective for the prediction, but also effective to distinguish which cutting model is realized under given cutting conditions.

    When feeding a slider in a vertical plane, a moment, hence an ununiform pressure distribution is usually induced on vertical slide-faces by an unbalanced feed force and/or a slider's weight. In view of this point, the present paper analysed a mechanism of stick-slip vibration and confirmed it experimentally by a model test.
    (1) Stick-slip amplitude and critical feed rate at its occurrence limit are both larger in up-feeding than in down-feeding, and their values are much affected by an amount of preload between slide-faces.
    (2) The critical feed rate is also affected by a structure, in particular by a relative arrangement of slider's centre of gravity with a driving point, and design principle to suppress stick-slip is introduced.

    In this paper, the theoretical studies on the optimization of the operating condition of the hydrostatic thrust bearings are presented. Total amount of power consumption is treated as an objective function, while the bearing clearance, static stiffness, damping ratio of the bearing, lubricant viscosity and the initial lift up pressure are considered as constraints throughout the optimization procedure. Through the study, it is pointed out that the constraints of the minimum permissible value of the bearing clearance, static stiffness and lubricant viscosity are especially in higher degree responsible to the total amount of power consumption. Simplified design procedure which offers designers the optimum values is drawn from these results.
