The purpose of this study is to develop a new combination algorithm for the combination weigher equipped with a single weighing device. First, two types of combination algorithm (A-type and B-type) are proposed, showing a model configuration of the combination weigher. The A-type is an algorithm that has a simple combination procedure, but it requires many number of repetitive computations to find an optimal combination of goods. On the other hand, the B-type is an algorithm that is a little complicated, but it does not require many number of repetitive computations. In addition, the B-type has the very function for the purpose to adopt to the variation of the statistical properties of goods. Second, comparison is made of the two algorithms with respect to the combination efficiency by means of computer simulation. As the result, it is made clear that these combination efficiencies are sufficient in practice and that the B-type is successful for the variation of the statistical properties of goods. Third, to examine the feasibility of the algorithm, an experimental combination weigher with the B-type is made and, on the basis of the experimental result, problems to be solved for the development of the combination weigher are discussed.
