In practice, the measurement of the plasma free hemoglobin has been employed for indicator of the red blood cell damage. And it is true that many attentions are taken only on the plasma free hemoglobin as already destructed red cells but few on the still alived not destructed red cells.
On the other hand, the anemia after operation with extra corporeal circulation is well documented.
In this paper, the influence on the red blood cells by bubble oxygenator is estimated by using radio-active cromium labeling method.
Then the existence of the reversible and irreversible damage of the red cells is proved.
During 30 minuts oxygenation 18 per cent of red cells is damaged irreversiblly, and almost thirteen to fourteen per cent is damaged reversiblly.
The per cent of irreversiblly damaged red cells are obtained from elimination curve of transfused red cells, and that of reversiblly damaged red cells are calculated through changing the red cell to irreversible by several days preservation in 4 centigrade temperature.
As control test, on the not damaged red cells the influence, which is caused by preservation, is considered.
The genesis of the irreversible damage of the red cells is mentioned as to be in the enzymal degeneration of red cell.
