    Sigma embrittlement was studied on two different high chromium steel plates (both 25% Cr and 24%Cr+1.5%Si+1.5%Al alloy steel) and four different weld metals deposited with 24-27%Cr+ 0.5-1.5%Si electrode. In the first place, these materials were aged to form sigma phase at 700°C for 100-1000 hours. After aging at 700°C, Charpy impact tests and tensile tests were conducted with these embrittled materials. In addition to the above experiment, Authors investigated on 475°C embrittlement in the case of 24%Cr+1.5%Si+1.5%Al steel plates and weld metals deposited with 28% Cr+1.5% Si electrode. The results of investigation concerning mechanical properties of embrittled parts were as follows :
    1. 475°C embrittlement and sigma formation occurred more rapidly in weld metals than in steel plates, and tendency to embrittlement of all test materials was more intensive in the case of 475°C embrittlement than in sigma formation.
    2. Sigma embrittlement was, as a rule, removed by normalizing at about 800°C.

    The low pressure type gas welding or cutting torch has a character that the low pressure acetylene gas is sucked up with supplied high pressure oxygen gas at the injector.
    In the previous report, authors have decieded experimentaly the most suitable dimentions in injector.
    In this report, the experiments were investigated to the relations between mixed ratin of oxy-acetylene flame and supplied gas pressure in low and high pressure type torches.
    Consequently, following conclusion was obtained;
    In the case of the high pressure acetylene was used, the mixed ratio (O2/C2H2) of oxy-acetylene flame was remarkably incrersed according to the increase of supplied oxygen pressure, as shown in Fig. 2.
    In the case of the high pressure type torch was used, the change of mixed ratio of the flame caused by the supplied oxygen pressure, showed more sensitive change than that of low pressure type torch.
    In the case of the oxygen has extremely higher pressure than the its of acetylene, was supplied to the torch, the change of supplied oxygen pressure has little influence on the mixed ratio of the oxy-acetylene flame.

    There are various methods of evaluating the effect of contact resistance. Some people say that just by contact resistance, welding is possible. The others regard it of little importance.
    The former illustrate their theory by the fact that while two lapped plates can produce weld nugget, a single plate can not produce nugget under the same welding current.
    However, in the case of a single plate, by the ffinging phenomena of current distribution the current path spreads wider than in two lapped plates, so the effect of lowered current density cannot be overlooked. Whether the nugget is produced or cannot be directly associated with the effect of contact resistance.
    We devised special test pieces as shown in Fig. 10, with which we succeeded in eliminating the influences of fringing of current distribution and contact resistance between electrode tip and plate. With these test pieces we made equivarent experiments on two lapped plates and a single plate. From the oscillogram we could get the change of resistance, and evaluate the effect of contact resistance only.
    After the experiments, we could know that, of contact resistances, film resistance was almost useless, but that contact resistance made the current density of contact surface higher, at the same time making the heat generation effective, so the contact resistance proved to be apparently effective.
    But it is also an undeniable fact that contact resistance is not so essential that without it nugget cannot be formed.
  • 酸素ガス,溶滓FeO-Fe2O3-CaO-SiO2と溶鉄Fe-Si-Oの平衡に関する統計熱力学的解析

    Submerged arc welding fluxes are analogous to steelmaking slags The fundamental slag component consists of FeO-Fe2O3 CaO-SiO2 system. But the temperature of welding is higher than that of steelmaking and the time of reaction is short in welding. Author has studied equilibrium of gas-slag-metal over an extensive change of temperature in the welding from the statistical ther-modynamical method which was reported previously on the theory of steelmakig.
    In this report, author has established equilibrium equations among oxygen atmosphere, molten slag FeO-Fe2O3 CaO-SiO2 and molten iron Fe-Si-O, and examined the physical constant values.
    Author could explain the reduction values of silicon and the quantity of oxygen in molten iron for solving the equation by this method, though he was unable to explain this point by the chemical method that had been hitherto used.
    The results of calculation will be reported next time.
  • 大型溶接継手試験片と小型溶接継手試験片による実験結果の比較

    Creep rupture properties at 400, 450 and 500°C of Mn-Cr-Mo-B alloy HT 70 quenched and tempered steel were investigated of large welded specimens, having the shape as welded. Test steel, 30mm thick, was produced experimentally for nuclear pressure vessels and welded joints were made with covered electrodes. The results of creep rupture properties of large welded specimens were compared with those of usual small welded specimens, cut off from the welded joint.
    The results are;
    (1) The creep rupture elongations and strengths of large welded specimens were generally inferior to those of usual small welded specimens. This seems to be caused by formal and metal-lurgical stress concentration.
    (2) The creep rupture configuration of large welded specimens was very different from that of small welded specimens. The initiation of cracking in rupture occurred at the toe of weld metal and the intersection of the bonds of both side weld metal. The cracking propagated along the grain boundary of austenite of bond in the heat-affected-zone of base metal.
