1. An unselected series of 43 cases of intussusception in infants and children operated on between 1937 and 1957 is presented.
2. A considerable number of intussusception is referable to mesenterium commune; 65.1per cent of the intussusception cases observed are believed to be of mesenterium commune origin. It is emphasized that the mesenterium commune plays an important role as a predisposing factor. But in most intussusception cases in the present series, any initial causative factors does not seem to have been clarified.
3. The operative mortality rate of acute intussusception cases of infants and children has been markedly reduced during the last 9 years. Responsible factors in the reduction were analyzed.
