In order to examine the central action of tridione, electromyographic study was made of effects of the drug given intravenously on nociceptively and proprioceptively induced reflex discharges in the tibialis anterior muscle of spinal, midbrain or intact rabbit without any anesthetic medication.
Tridione in a small dose (50mg/kg) caused a notable decrease in the magnitude of nociceptive reflex discharges but a petty change on proprioceptive reflex discharges in spinal rabbits. When a moderate dose of the drug (100-200mg/kg) was administered to spinal rabbit, these reflex discharges were more or less affected gradually and the depression of the discharges was resulted which was in its grade unparallel with the doses used. It was striking property of tridione that nociceptive reflex discharges were more remarkably depressed by a small dose than by a moderate dose administration of tridione.
In intact as well as midbrain rabbits, tridione was found to possess the depressive action on nociceptive reflex discharges in a small dose (50mg/kg), while in a moderate dose (100mg/kg) the discharges were feebly affected as compared with the results obtained in small dose administration. In some samples, a moderate dose of the drug caused the facilitation of the reflex discharges. When a large dose of the drug was injected intravenously, the reflex discharges were facilitated in most samples. Then, if a larger dose (300rnekg or more) of the drug was administered to intact rabbit, these nociceptive discharges were depressed. These tridione-effects seemed to be somewhat exaggerated in intact rabbits as compared with those seen in midbrain rabbits. Therefore tridione may affect severely to the suprareticular nerve structure.
Proprioceptive reflex discharges in intact and midbrain rabbits were little affected in most samples by small to moderate doses of tridione and after a large dose of the drug these discharges might be affected to produce facilitation of the discharges but the effects were not so marked as those of nociceptive reflex exprimental cases. From these findings it was supposed that the central action of tridione may be suppression of the abnormal hyperexcitabilities of the bulbar reticulo-thalamic-hippocampal structure in the central nervous system.

The systems of conduction of excitation upon the neuro-muscular junction of frog were studied by means of the modified Kiihne's M. gracilis experiment. After the system was determined, blood of the experimental animal was let from the heart and defibrinated. The effects of the blood upon the pupil of enucleated frog's eye-ball were tested by Ehrmann's method used for the biological determination of adrenaline. The enucleated eye-balls were soaked in Ringer solutions and kept in a dark room for about 2 hours before the experiment. The horizontal and vertical diameters of a pupill were measured every moment in a dark room under the illumination of 0.5-1.0 lux red light. The results obtained were as follows:
    (1) The blood obtained from the frog that revealed the typical isodromiacl system (reciprocal conduction) so-called 1st system caused pupillary dilatation in general.
    (2) The blood obtained from the frog that revealed the heterodromical system (irreciprocal conduction) so-called 3rd system caused pupillary constriction or had no effect upon the pupillary reaction.
    (3) The blood obtained from the frog that revealed apparently non-conducting system so-called 4th system caused pupillary constriction or had no effect upon the pupillary reaction.
In conclusion, the blood of the 1st system contained adrenaline like substance, while the blood of the 3rd and 4th systems had not such substance, moreover, they had the effect of pupillary constriction some times.

The conduction systems of neuro-muscular junction of the gracilis preparations were determined by Kotsuka's method described previously. After the determination of conduction systems, blood reactions of the experimental frogs were tested with leech-muscular preparations. Hirudo japonica was used as an experimental subject. Ratio of contraction of leech muscle preparation treated with frog blood was measured at intervals of certain minutes. The blood obtained from the 1st system-typical isodromic conduction system-revealed the greatest ratio of contraction of leech muscle preparation. On the other hand, the blood obtained from the 4th system-apparently non-conduction system-revealed the smallest ratio and the blood obtained from the 3rd systein-heterodromic conduction system-revealed medium ratio between the 1st and 4th system.

A study is made on influences of varying kinds of peptone on pigment production of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. For that purpose,7 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa which have been stored at the Department of Microbiology, Kansai Medical school, are employed; 9 kinds of peptone were tested.
Production of pyocyanin is favorable with Chapoteaut peptone, Witte Pepton and Polypeptone, especially with Chapoteaut peptone.
Production of melanin is observed with all kinds of peptone tested, especially favorably with Polypeptone, Chapoteaut peptone, Witte Pepton and Zoki-Kenkyusho (Organ Research Laboratory) peptone.
Production of fluorescin is observed with all kinds of peptone tested, especially shoa good response with Polypeptone, Arei peptone, Zoki-Kenkyusho (Organ Research Laboratory) peptone, Marukawa peptone and Uehara peptone.

It seems generally accepted that carbohydrates and amino acid constitute factors for pigment production in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It was already confirmed by S. Osawa and others that a substance in onion, which is not dissolved in ether, alcohol or aceton, is not distilled at 100°C, but is destroyed after being long heated or aired and heated is effective for pigment production in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
In the present experiments it is concluded to assume that that effective substance proves to be contained in sugar, especially glucose which onion is possesed with in a large quantity.

Since the first report on the gastric ulcer was made in 460 B. C. by Hippocrates, a number of investigative works have been performed from various standpoints. One of the most undesirable complications is the bleeding from the gastric ulcer.
This report is presented for the purpose of calling attention to the pathophysiologic aspect of the bleeding ulcer.
Authors have recently had the opportunity of observing and treating two patients with the bleeding gastric ulcer. Both of them were relived by gastrectomy under the adequate replacement therapy given for the recovery of preoperative pre-shock condition due to relatively much bleeding. Histologically, in one cace, we found a ruptured arteriole, which seemed to be the main source of bleeding, in the base of the ulcer toward the lumen.
Generally it is thought that acute bleeding from the upper gastrointestinal tract may cause interference with the circulation of liver. Once anoxia of liver is present, because of the interference with liver function as well as blood loss, subsequent shock are imminent. It has been recently emphasized by Ooi that the bleeding from the upper gastrointestinal tract seems to cause more unfavourable effects on the general condition than the bleeding from any other parts of body.
Authors emphasized that if the patient is in good condition and does not exibit marked systemic effects following blood loss, early operation is advisable. On the other hand, if the patient's general condition is unfavourable and blood loss is marked, or if the patient is in shock state, a preliminary replacement therapy is prefeable. In the latter case, when the patient returns to good condition, the surgical intervention becomes urgent and gastrectomy imperative.

    1) It is demonstrated that when the peripheral cut end of the medullary bull-frog's oculomotor nerve is stimulated with “glycerine spot method” intracranially, there follows pupillodilation on the atropinized eye isolaterally. Therefore, it is considered that the oculomotor nerve contains efferent pupillodilating fibers
    2) Pupilloconstriction is observed on the non-atropinized eye when the peripheral cut end of the oculomotor nerve is stimulated with “glycerine spot method” as in 1) isolaterally. Namely, the pupilloconstricting action of oculomotor nerve is confirmed on “glycerine spot method”. It is revealed that pupilloconstricting fibers dominate over pupillodilating fibers in the oculomotor nerve under normal conditions.
    3) The results of 1) and 2) support to consider that the circlar muscle of the iris of bull-frogs is governed by “efferent parasympathetic double innervation”.
    4) The above experimental results are presented to dissapprove Langley's law of double innervation of the centrifugal autonomic nerves on the iris.
