We developed a standard test of kanji which indicates practical ability of using kanji of foreign learners by evaluating various aspects of their kanji processing ability, such as pattern recognition, meaning comprehension, reading processing, writing processing, usage processing and phonetic processing (Kano and Sakai, 2002). Based on the results of the test, various kanji teaching strategies were used in the "Kanji 2" classes of the International Student Center, University of Tsukuba, from the 3^<rd> term, 2001 to the 1st term, 2003. In this paper, the author reports on the outcome of these classes.
