Single crystal Fe16N2 films have been epitaxially grown by MBE onto very thin single crystal Fe films using In0.2Ga0.8As (100) substrates. To obtain Fe16N2 single crystal films, the growth rates of Fe16N2 and Fe should be reduced to 0.006Å/sec and 0.03Å/sec, respectively. The saturation magnetic flux density of Fe16N2 single crystal films is 2.8~2.9 T. This value is in good agreement with the expected value by Kim and Takahashi. The coercive force He is about 10 Oe. The easy axis of Fe16N2 is <111>. The magnetic anisotropy constant K1 and K2 are -5.84×105 erg/cc and 6.10×105 erg/cc, respectively.

The dependence of electromechanical coupling constant k on the angle from rolling direction and the recrystallization texture were studied for Fe-30% Pd-2%C alloy. The constant k derived from ΔE effect shows distinct angle dependence in the rolling plane at a rolling reduction of 75%, while it becomes indistinct at 60 and 80% reductions. The k value has a tendency to increase by higher rolling reduction. The (001) [100] and (110) [100] recrystallization textures appear at 75%, and (110) [112] is specified at 80%. These results are discussed by taking into account of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the alloy.

The high Bs (6300 G; 0,63 T) Mn-Zn ferrite poly-crystals (K1~0, λs≫0) with high permeability at high frequency by control of their microstructure were examined for application to the material of “Winchester” type monolithic computer head. The high Bs head showd superiority in the recording density, D50, and wave width, Pw50, compared with that of one made of conventional Mn-Zn ferrite (Bs~5000 G; 0.5 T), due to the improvement of the magnetic field at the gap of the head because of its high saturation magnetization. However, the problem of head output deterioration after increasing the CSS (Contact Start Stop) remained.
