This sutdy was carried out to find out some early diagnosis methods on man exposed to methyl iodide or methyl bromide. When methyl iodide was administrated to rabbits, this substance was found in the brain, especially in the cerebral cortex, and in the liver and kidneys. Gait disturbance, the most severe effect of methyl iodide on the nervous system, seemed to be represented as an increase of d-tubocurarine susceptibility of the rabbit. In this state of the rabbit, abnormal metabolic patterns of lipids and of energy rich phosphate compoounds such as decrease of phosphatidylserine, lecithin and ATP were observed in the brain. As reported previously, changes of serum proteins and lipids were clearer than such changes in the brain. The change of serum lipids, especially changes of triglyceride and of the total lipids, was further ascertained in man exposed to methyl iodide or methyl bromide.
