    Targeting three major chemical journals, J. Catal., Anal. Chem. and J. Polym Sci.(Part A) the authors evaluated them regarding time lag found in the course for contribution received, accepted, issuance of the publications, the articles put on the databases. They also analyzed citation of the articles by document type and in chronological order. It is important for ones who contribute to journals to recognize how long it takes those articles to appear on the latest journals. Reminding the time lag ones need to make strategy of being able to obtain the latest information. The authors also find that citation analysis help ones to select core journals in their own academic fields.

    The knowledge management is recognized as the strategic theme in the business management field at today's rapid changing market. The knowledge management is expected to change the way of conventional information management. The role of information manager is being shifted from a controller who manages information itself to a facilitator who promotes to generate new knowledge. The object of knowledge extends not only to data and information but also to cognition and wisdom. And also not only explicit knowledge which can be expressed by language but also tacit knowledge which can not be expressed by language becomes important part of knowledge resources. It is known that IT toll is the important key in operating the knowledge management, however, we have to recognize that another important key is a well organized system for sharing knowledge.

    This is a report on the outline and outcomes of the Workshop, which was held by JST in Hanoi, Vietnam, in October 2000. Participated were S&T information organizations under S&T ministries from 5 countries among ASEAN 10. Speakers introduced a status report related to S&T information activities, followed by DB map of their own country. Data-sharing of directory DB on research institutes was agreed, at the discussion session, together with some other items.

    First of all, the meaning of conversion (digitalize) from written on the paper to digital information is descrived. Next, notes of digitalizing of each various attributes of the paper medium are enumerated. Finally, the feature and the usage of a typical form are easily stated among various digitalization data forms.
