    Mitsubishi Chemical Co., Ltd. started its business with coal chemistry, then got to cover petroleum chemistry, basic raw materials, so on. It has enlarged its business areas to deal with functional raw materials by use, pharmaceuticals and biochemistry. In chemical industry R&TD (research, technical development) is indispensable so that versatile approaches have long been taken for knowledge management inside the Company. Knowledge management studied and practiced inside its Yokohama General Research Institute has deployed and spread over R&TDs of the Company. R&TD has been divided into three classes since its beginning, that is, class 0 for basic information gathering stage, class 1 for stage of research being carried out, and class 2 for stage of using documents including reports. This paper describes procedures and methods of each class, which were conducted at Yokohama General Research Institute in 2000.

    According to the strategic alliance between DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi Motors in March 2000, the business using English of associates has increased rapidly. Then, after considering the importance of the document security, Intranet Translation Support System (24H-nonstop operation) of server type was developed. User registration has exceeded over 6,000, and there are 2,400 users per month, 380 users per day who are using this system. This article explains the actual usage examples which are needed in the translation support system.

    The Unfair Competition Prevention Law forms a part of the system of competition laws, and together with the Anti-monopoly law plays a part of the role of standards and rules on the conduct of business activities. At the same time, it forms a part of the intellectual property law system, and aims to control conducts running counter to the spirit of industrially and commercially fair practices, and through its control intellectual properties are reflectively protected from unfair infringements. It also aims to control by means of civil actions and to prevent by criminal punishment illegal acquisition of business secrets having property values such as design drawings, experimental data, customer lists, etc. The law, having been amended several times from the overall amendment of 1993 to the amended law of 2003, has come to occupy an increasingly important position in the intellectual property law system, and the number of law suits relating to the law is increasing. The author reports on the overview of the latest Unfair Competition Prevention Law and the present condition of control of infringements of intellectual property right based on the same law.
