The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT) was founded in 1952, and it celebrated the 50th anniversary in 2002. MOMAT is comprised of the art museum, crafts gallery and the National Film Center (Archives), and is showing modern and contemporary fine art, crafts and movies. In January 2002, after long term reconstruction of the art museum, the museum’s exhibition space was expanded to about 4,599 m
2 and the new art library opened to the public. The author introduces the Information system for museum collection including the kiosk terminals for museum visitors located in the Information Corner at the 3rd floor of the museum, and is describing the original ideas on how to develop the system. Also, he introduces the art library that collects about 80,000 books and exhibits catalogues, and 3,000 titles of journals.
