National Institute of Informatics (Research Organization of Information and Systems) launches a new web service, Researchmap. Researchmap is an information sharing platform for the researchers. The user of Researchmap obtains three virtual spaces of the different access levels. The first one is called "My Portal" which can be used as his/her homepage. The second one is called "My Room" which is meant for his/her virtual private space which is not accessible by anyone else. The last one is called "Community" which can be used as collaborative working/learning space with other member researchers. Researchmap provides more than 30 portlet applications including Curriculum Vitae, Weblog, Cabinet and Video Sharing. The user can arrange the portlet applications on a given page by drag-and-drop manner: the user can arrange them intuitively just as he/she arranges his/her room to express himself/herself.

In recent years, importance of the patent information application in enterprise has increased. Extracting indispensable information quickly from too much patent information for the end user is required. Visualization of patent information was examined making use of the text mining tools and The R statistical language; 1. Analysis and visualization of the patent documents using similarity, 2. Visualizing patent information by means of social network analysis tools with applications to inventors and technical terms. When this technique is applied to search set of the commercial patent database, it can be applied "the analysis of patent information/evaluation support" and "use of strategic patent information".

In this study we analyzed the efficacy of index terms of JSTPlus and JMEDPlus databases. Those databases are produced and provided by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Statistical analysis of user behavior showed that not many users were aware of indexes but got the benefit of indexes and thesaurus. From 52 theme searches, analysis of recall ratio and precision ratio showed that indexes raised retrieval precision. And by using indexes, users could retrieve the articles those were not able to be retrieved only from bibliographic data search. Appearance ratio of index terms in titles, abstracts and full texts showed that 40% of index terms and their synonyms didn't appear in full text. It showed that 40% of index terms were indexed by indexer's subject analysis of full text. These analyses meant efficacy of indexing by hands.
