Machine readability means that computers can easily recognize the structure of documents. Documents published with consideration for machine readability are easier to be searched and used. On the other hand, documents that are not considered for machine readability will be hard to circulate. Until recently, documents have only been considered for human readability. However, now that document circulation relies on the Internet, the importance of the composition having improved machine readability using XML has been increasing. Yet human readability often conflicts with machine readability. In this study, I examine examples of these oppositions, and I suggest that machine readable typesetting should be carried out for the time being in online journals.
