Recently shared office has become popular as a start-up office among young workers in the center of Tokyo, because it offers them low rent and physical interchange among them. This paper aims of the research on the planning between private and public space in shared office through the behavior observation of users around public space. The results were as follows:
1. There were various users' activity patterns between private and public space. From the observation of their collaborative activity pattern among them, distributed small public meeting space adjacent to their private space might contribute to more effective use rather than one large public meeting space.
2. In response to change of users' work style, their private space also changed among closed, semi-closed and open type so that space configuration between private and public space needed to be adjusted flexibly.
3. Gathering space of users such as common lounge and public meeting space was created at their accessible place or on the way of their private space and promoted their physical interchange.
