I studied to understand the present information environment, the information customs, the drug information needs and the satisfaction rating of information getting of pharmacists who are members of the Hokkaido Pharmaceutical Association. The analysis of results was done by region (the sphere of Sapporo and excluding Sapporo), years of experience (within 5 years, 6 to 10 years, 11 to 20 years and 21 years or more) and the hospital scale (small: within 200 beds, medium: 201 to 500 beds and large: 500 beds or more). In the sphere of Sapporo, the satisfaction rating of personal computer owners was high. Regardless of the region, they were dissatisfied that there was no copy service for documents, and would like a usable medical university library. Many pharmacists of 21 years or more got medical information from the pharmacist association. The rate of use for databases such as MEDLINE and PubMed by pharmacists with 5 years' experience or less, working for large-scale hospitals in the sphere of Sapporo was high. All pharmacists working for large- and medium-scale hospitals got some information from pharmaceutical companies. Pharmacists getting some information from Pharmaceutical companies and Internet had misgivings about the quality of information and its reliability; they thought documents were necessary to confirm it. Pharmaceutical university libraries should do positive PR of their services, cooperate with regional pharmacist associations, correspond actively with pharmacists, based on their needs and environment.
