Among the various versions of academic papers, the Version of Record (VoR) has established a firm position as the version of record for academic research. However, controversy has arisen between publishers and the academic community over the VoR. In this debate, the academic community has proposed the idea of RoV (Record of Versions) as an alternative to VoR. In this paper, firstly the definition of versions of scholarly articles recommended by the joint working group of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and the Association of Academic and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) is explained. Next, the controversy between publishers and the academic community over VoR will be covered, and the RoV concept that emerged from that controversy will be introduced. The various efforts to implement RoV will also be discussed.
It is difficult for small local colleges to pay for the subscription to E-journals, which continues to rise in price every year. Originally, the role that university libraries should play is to support research for all faculty members, but the current situation is that some faculty members are given preferential treatment as vested interests by subscribing to E-journals. University libraries need to face the challenge of budgeting and providing fair support services to all faculty members. This report is a record of the introduction of SUNMEDIA, one of the Document Delivery Services, as a new attempt by small public university libraries to replace E-journal subscriptions.
The innovations of scholarly communication, such as electronic journals and preprint servers, boost the number of academic papers per year and make it difficult for researchers and clinicians to find them in the flood of information. In this article, the author reports a case study of introduction and discusses the advantages and utilization of Faculty Opinions for research activities, education, clinical practice and publicizing research papers in higher education institutions of the medical and pharmaceutical fields.
