    Die Kreuzung zwischen S. italica (_??_) und S. viridis (_??_) gelang ziemlich leicht. In morphologischer Hinsicht zeigten die Bastarde keinen grossen Unterschied zu S. viridis, doch hielten sie in Bezug auf Aehrenlänge, Körner-grösse und auch in der Anzahl der Körner die Mitte (Abb. 1). Die P.M.Z. von F1 haben 9II Chromosomen wie die der Eltern. Die Chromosomen-konjugation von F1 ist normal (Abb.2). Die Pollenkörner sind zum grössten Teil gut entwickelt. Der Körneransatz bei F1 ist vollkommen.
    Auf Grund ihrer Endospermeigenschaft unterscheidet man bei S. italica zwei Sorten, nämlich die Stärke- und die Klebersorte. Bei S. viridis findet sich aber nur die Stärkesorte. Der Stärkeendosperm ist dem Kleberendo-sperm gegenüber dominant. Die Spaltung der beiden Allelen findet in den Pollenkörnern ungefähr im Verhältnis von 1:1 statt. Das Verhältnis dieser beiden Eigenschaften in den Samen der intra- und der interspezifischen Bastarde schwankt zwischen 3:1 und 5:1.
    Diese Resultate stehen im Einklang mit der Ansicht, dass S. viridis die wilde Stammform von S. italica ist.

    1. 2144 abnormal leaves of Trifolium repes L. gathered by Mrs. I. KATO were studied statistically with regard to their number of leaflets and the abnormality of leaves.
    2. 82.14% were of quadrifolia type, 17.3% of pentafolia type, and less than 1% of hexa- to octofolia type.
    3. The multiplication of the initial of the leaflets, but not the duplication of the leaflets due to the division, is considered as the main cause of the polyphylly.

    From the external characters, the study being stressed on length, width, weight, color shades, and forms, ergots may be divided into several groups. The grouping, as a whole, seems to coincide with the natural affinity of the host plants, although a further study remains in certain group.
    In Poaeoideae-Hordeeae, the ergots of Secale cereale, Agropyron semicostatum, and Elymus dahuricus are similar each other, but the ergot of E. mollis is distinct from the group.
    In Poaeoideae-Festuceae, the ergot of Festuca rubra is apparently classified in the Secale-group, and the ergots of three species of Phragmites are quite different from it, forming another group.
    Calamagrostis Epigeios var. densiflora, only one plant belonging to Agrostoideae-Agrostideae, has very small sized ergot which will be distinguishable from other groups.
    The ergot of Zoysia japonica (Claviceps yanagawaensis TOGASHI) in Panicoideae-Zoysieae is distinctly different from others in many respects.
    In Panicoideae-Andropogoneae, the ergot of Spodiopogon sibiricus shows characteristics unconformable to any of the groups. The ergots of two species of Miscanthus form a distinct group.
