The effects of sex, type of birth as single, twin and triplet, type of rearing as single, twin and twin raised as single, parity of the dam on the birth and weaning weight of Suffolk lambs were analyzed with the method of the least squares analysis.
The record used for calculation were taken in Takikawa Animal Husbandry Experiment Station from 1975 to 1981 which amounted to 2476 lambs at birth and 1952 at weaning.
1. All the environmental factors had a significant influence on both birth and weaning weight.
2. Male lambs weighted 0.28kg heavier at birth, still more 2.444 at weaning compared with females.
3. Single lambs were 1.00 kg and 1.70 kg at birth heavier than twins and triplets, respectively.
At weaning, single lambs were 6.51 kg, 3.03 kg heavier than twin lambs and twin lambs who had been raised as single, respectively.raised as twins.
4. Lambs born from first parity dams weighted 0.38 kg at birth and 1.46 kg at weaning lighter than lambs of dams 2 throught 5 parity.
