    The purpose of this paper is to consider employing the Japanese body thoughts which focuses on the relationship between the ‘Domain of Ki (_??_)’ and the ‘Domain of Mi (_??_)’ for the improvement of teaching physical education. The ‘Domain of Ki, ’ mentioned above, refers to one's mind and body at an unconscious level whose power could potentially be emitted toward the outside world, whereas the ‘Domain of Mi’ refers to one's mind and body at a conscious level which becomes the channel, and interacts with the outside world by receiving information cognitively and making proper judgements. According to the current researches, the Japanese body thoughts states that one stirs up self activities by regarding the ‘Domain of Ki’ as the ground and form his or her zest for living by regarding the ‘Domain of Mi’ as the figure.
    Based on the relationship between the two domains, and the integrated structure of the two along with the ground and figure, we suggest the possibility of the application of theories of the body to teaching physical education classes as follows:
    1) One is able to sense the ‘Domain of Ki’ through one's skin. But when one cannot get on well with others, he or she cannot sense their ‘Domain of Ki’. Therefore, it is important to form the world of such shared spaces between students and teachers. This sharing improves the atmosphere of the class and brings about a desirable situation in which students comfortably find a variety of oppotunities to solve their own problems using teaching materials presented to them.
    2) The sharing mentioned above 1) is meant to cultivate the most fundamental capabilities of students such as their perception and thinking. Through this sharing of space, one can find new aspects of oneself (Domain of Mi) which he or she has never been aware of.
    3) From 1) and 2), in teaching physical education, students' inner desire should be regarded as the ground since their potential power lies in the ‘Domain of Ki’, and teachers should include various exercises where students can express their feelings freely.

    Under the influence of the Paralympic for intellectually challenged people established by I. P. C. and the World Special Olympics Games held by S. O. I., along with “YU-AI” pics and the National Special Olympic Games being held at home, sports for intellectually challenged people have been gradually claiming on our attention in Japan. However, the substantial differences among these special athletes have raised various issues at the same time, and competitive sports itself has been devated whether it suits to intellectually challenged people or not. In view of the disabilities of them, we may say participation in competition itself is not suitable to them. On the whole, there seems to be the bias that intellectually challenged people are not capable of competitive sports, which is why there have not been enough chance for them to play sports. It is true that the manner of participation and competition has been different the degree of their disabilities, but it is also well known that it is not necessarily impossible for them to participate and compete even if their disabilities are severe.
    So, what is crux is that in the field of sports for intellectually challenged people as well as for not handicapped considering the fundamentals of sports, it is possible to find an absolute value of competitive sports and that can give them a great significance. It would be a blessing and far greater value than if they pursue and believe in their capabilities and challenge over their limited ability. It may appear that they have difficulty participating in competitive sports, but as they improve their previous best efforts, they can widen their seemingly limited horizons, and gain a new realization of their potentials. We can expect that aspect fully.
