    The purpose of this paper was to clarify the ideal of a human being in the discourse of “Yojo” and “Eisei”, examining the acceptance of the anatomy and the role of “Kaika”, the view of cultural and social development.
    The main results were summarized as follows;
    i) “Yojo”, “Eisei” and “health” made peoples approach the ideal of a human being in “Bunmei Kaika”, the spirit of the time in early Meiji era. So they gave good reasons for the new westernized customs in those days. The “strongly-built” body and “incisive brain”, which based on the anatomy, were the characteristics of the ideal of a human being in the custom of “Kaika”.
    ii) “Yojo” in the Edo era had no idea of “strongly-built” body. The “strongly-built” body proceeded from the acceptance of modern medical science on “Yojo” and the combination of physical activity and production of things.
    iii “Yojo” in the Edo era had no relation to the incisiveness. The ideal of the “incisive brain” which was able to bring to “Kaika”, proceeded from the understanding that a brain had been the center of mental function.
    iv) The idea of “Kaika” in the discourses of “Yojo” and “Eisei” caused the anatomically explained body to be combined with the social value and the national interests.

    The purpose of this study is to make the mechanism of sport ethics explicit, referring to the relationship between sport world and the world in general.
    There lies a difficult problem in the relation between “be” and “should be, ” which moral philosophers must deal with. Though we find various kinds of theories for that, this study takes Hans Jonas' stand. He looks upon the present situation as the crisis of human existence with the environmental disruption resulting from the development of technology. So he asserts that “be” take precedence over “should be” because human beings must exist before we argue on what human beings should be. He also asserts that one way, inter-generational, distant and collective responsibility shold be more important than reciprocal, contemporary, direct and personal one. Accordingly, “be” takes precedence over “should be” in the world in general.
    How is it in sport world then? In this case, too, sport world must exist before we argue on what should be in sport world. The idea that sport activities are intrinsically good has gone now and we must consider surroundings much more consciously. The world in general must continue to exist in order that sport world can exist. In conclusion, the mechanism of sport ethics must aim not to harm anyone in the world in general. This is the reason for sport world to exist.

    This paper is a report about my study in Tuebingen University of Germany. In addition to that, it also includes a translation of my paper I read on 20 July 2000 in Germany-Japan symposium held in Germany.
    From November 1999 to August 2000, I studied under the supervision of Prof. Ommo Grupe in the Institution of Sport Science, Tuebingen University. One of my theme during my stay there as an overseas scholar was an examination on the conception of “mediation of human-body, ” which has been stated by Prof. Grupe himself. I addressed a speech about the theme at the very end of my stay in Germany. The speech I addressed is translated in this present paper.
    I would be very grateful if these report and paper here concerning to my study in Tuebingen are useful to anyone of the society we belong.
