In spite of numerous reports on the out-seasonal production of lamb in the sheep, there are relati-vely a few in the goats. It is thought be useful for the study of lactation, especially for test of gala-ctopoietic substances, to obtain lactating goats of declining stage in the late autumn or early winter. Because feeds are less variable at these times of the year, rather constant milk yield can be ex-pected.
Two goats were treated at the early part of February, according to the same procedure with the out-season lamb production : progesterone, 12.5 mg x 2 x 5 and PMS, 1, 000 IU with two days' pause between them. Oestrus started from 24 and 48 hrs. after PMS injection, and persisted 4 and 2 days.
The changes of the outer genitalia and oestrous behaviours were not so prominent, compared with those of normal cycle. Therefore holding does was necessary at the time of mating. A weak oestrous changes were detected at the due time of next oestrus (about 20 days after the treatment), altough does had been pregnant already. Normal births were obtained in the middle of July.
Although the does in the present report can not be regarded as out-season breeding, the aim of production of lactating goats at decreasing stage in late autumn or early winter can be satisfied with the application of the technique of out-season lamb production.
