Since November of 1976, the leachate wastwaters from landfill at Haginodai in Miyazaki city have been treated by the Rotating Biological Contractor (R. B. C.), and the concentration of total nitrogen in the effluents were reduced less than 10 mg/
l constantly, however, COD components were not satisfactory removed.
A physico-chemical treatment plant was constructed to remove COD components after R. B. C treatment in Feb of 1980, and the operating period were experimented from April in 1979 to March in 1981.
The experimental results showed that 40% of biodegradable COD and 100% of the total nitrogen were removed by R. B. C., and 15-60% of nitrogen was removed by aerobic R. B. C..
The COD concentration in the effluents was reduced to less than 20 mg/
l by the physico-chemical treatment.
The coperating cost for R. B. C. was 56 yen/m
3 of treatment water, and the cost including physico-chemical treatment was 235.6 yen/m
3.
