The dynamics of the packed tower biological deodorization plants are investigated theoretically and experimentally. At first, two dynamic models for the odorants removal of the packed tower are proposed, considering the temporary shock loads and periodic pulses respectively. In the temporary shock load model, the response index is introduced as a parameter to express the decrease of the removal ratio. The response index, calculated from the result of the temporal shock load experiments, shows that the efficiency of the packed tower biological deodorization plant is higher when the fluctuation width of the inlet concentration is lower, while the efficiency is independent of the inlet load. On the other hand, the result of the periodic pulse experiments indicates that high efficiency can be acquired when the packing material used has a low wash out loss of the microorganisms. In addition, according to the numerical calculations, a steady removal is maintained against the sine-curve fluctuations and the decrease of the removal occurs against the fluctuations in which a long interval of low inlet concentration and a short interval of high inlet concentration are repeated alternately.

The conformity between the design and actual quantity of wastewater from Hosono district (Hikaridai) in Kansai Science City was studied on the analysis for characteristics of it from the four culture and scientific research facilities, which were opened already.
The quantity of it was in proportion to their floor area better than the number of persons, and its ratio was 5.1.l/day⋅m2. The maximum quantity was 2.5 times as large as the average quantity an hour. The final estimation for quantity of wastewater from eight facilities which will be opened at Hosono district as yet was more than design quantity, but it will be satisfied in whole area for the culture and scientific research facilities.
This results in this study will be useful to the design of wastewater for another science cities and laboratories.
