An enrichment method for orthophosphate in waters was studied. Sample water was filtered through a glass filter. Filtrate was flowed through a C18 cartridge and two anion exchange cartridges at a flow rate of 23ml/min. The anion exchange cartridges were detached from the system and were connected with a syringe containing 8ml of 2% Na
2SO
4 solution as eluent. This solution flowed through the cartridges. The elution process was conducted twice. Two eluents were joined and then were adjusted to 20ml with distilled water. The concentration of orthophosphate in the final solution was determined. In the case of 50 times enrichment for 0.01mg as P/L orthophosphate in the initial solution, recovery of orthophosphate and determination limit were 97.1 % and 0.1μg as P/L, respectively. The proposed method was applied to waters in Lake Biwa.
