TbFe
2 grain alignment in Tb-Fe alloys solidification under microgravity (μG) and terrestrial gravity (1G) was investigated. The microgravity was obtained by free fall in drop tower facility at the Japan Microgravity Center (JAMIC). TbFe
1.83 alloy of 1 gram was prepared for unidirectional solidification under microgravity environment. The samples were melted just before drop and solidified by contact chill against a sample under the microgravity during dropping. The microstructure of μG sample was columnar and TbFe
2 grains were strongly aligned along the thermal gradient. In 1G sample, the aligned microstructure was not obtained. The alloy composition was measured by EDX. The TbFe
3 phase was observed in 1G sample, and no TbFe
3 phase was observed in μG sample, caused by reduction of thermal convection in microgravity environment. In μG sample, the (111) orientation of TbFe
2 grains was obtained. The magnetostriction in parallel direction to the thermal gradient was larger than those in perpendicular direction in μG and 1G sample. The magnetostriction of μG sample in parallel direction to the thermal gradient was larger than that for 1G sample caused by microstructure.

Effect of electron beam (EB) irradiation on bending fracture toughness of a silica-based glass was studied. The EB irradiation enhanced the bending fracture stress and strain, which were higher than those before EB irradiation. The EB-reinforcement was explained by the stress-relaxation of glassy structure.

A bioelectronic gas-sensor (bio-sniffer) for hydrogen peroxide (H
2O
2) vapor was constructed by immobilized catalase to the oxygen electrode for detecting oxygen as enzyme catalytic product. The biosensor with catalase was calibrated against H
2O
2 solution from 0.01-12.0mmol/l. Applying to H
2O
2 vapor analysis, bio-sniffer could be detected odorless H
2O
2 vapor, thus obtaining the calibration range from 1.0 to 10.8ppm.

It is known that “knowledge/affection/consciousness” called 3 functions are in the brain of the person. Two functions of “the affection/consciousness” are perceived among these in this research. Thereupon, what kind of signal appears in the electroencephalogram (EEG) is checked empirically, when the testee smelled the stench of the food that set the corruption.
The result of the EEG is reproduced to the line signals of 3 dimension from the chronological order signal of 1 dimension by using the method of Ruell and Takenns. Thereupon, the line signals of 3 dimension is done in the phase space of 3 dimension the copy picture. As for the attractors of 3 dimension the cross section is requested by the method of Poincare'e. Also, the return map is painted from this cross section. It expresses the complexity of the return map with the fractal dimension last, and make this the material and the attempt of numerical value-ization of “the anxiety and wariness” of food poisoning is proposed.

Effect of ultrasonic treatments (28, 45, 100kHz) on
Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated with fluorescence stained organelle images using a confocal laser-scanning microscope (CLSM) and with a formation ability of cell colonies. The ultrasonic treatment, especially lower frequency as 28kHz, was effective for sterilizing
S. cerevisiae cell. The membrane collapses of cell and organelle caused by ultrasonic treatment were observed by CLSM images.

Therefore, it is necessary to make the film stabilize onry in Merocyanine simple substance. For this purpose, the control technology of molecular condition was developed by electric field and ultrasonic vibration. Moreover, the state of controlled molecule was examined with the π-A curve.

A thick (Nb, Ta)
3Sn layer can be synthesised in the Ta-Sn core/Nb (Nb-Ta) sheath composite. The diffusion of Nb from the sheath to the core seems to play a key roll to enhance that of Sn from the core to the sheath synthesizing (Nb, Ta)
3Sn layer. In the present study, new Jelly Roll processed (Nb, Ta)
3Sn wires are fabricated using Sn-Ta sheets richer in Sn and Nb sheets. The JR wires exhibit attractive high-field performance, and a small amount of Cu addition to the Sn-Ta sheet effectively decreases the reaction temperature.

Phase-separation process is essential phenomenon owing to influence on quality of alloy. Miscibility gap was found on phase diagram of Cr-W alloy, however other things of Cr-W alloy haven't been studied after that. Therefore the aim of this study is to prepare nonequilibrated alloy under the miscibility gap by shock compression method, and to study grain size dependence on it. W powder of average grain size between 1μm to 8μm mixed Cr powder of 10μm grain size is put pressure on 42GPa using a one-stage powder gun. As a result, the smaller W grain size is, the more Cr-W alloy. And in the case that W powder is small to 0.6μm and enough specific surface area in mixed powder, nearly homogeneous Cr-W alloy prepared. Fluid Cr alloy with W melted as high temperature concentrate on surface of grains.

Oxidization durability and light transitivity for a carbon protective layer developed in this research using a bias sputtering method are described. The light transitivity is estimated as 90% when the carbon protective layer was deposited with the condition of 250°C on the glass substrate. A surface roughness was measured as 0.39nm (RMS) within 10μm range. The roughness is improved taking a figure up one place compared with conventional sputtering method. The oxidization durability of the carbon protective layer of 5nm thickness was attained as the 10nm thickness carbon protective layer by the conventional sputtering has similar characteristics oxidization durability. Fabrication method of the carbon protective layer by the bias sputtering is effectively used for a near field optical data storage media.

The signal to noise ratio (SNR) for the near field optical reading is important factor to realize the two-dimensional terabyte optical memory system with a Vertical Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) and a near-field optical probe array. The SNR of the reading head using a GaP probe with 200nm aperture size with high optical throughput was evaluated as 15.56dB. The SNR of the GaP probe head was increased more than 5dB compared to that of a Si probe. It was observed that the SNR depended on the optical throughput of the probe. The High SNR was demonstrated by using GaP probe of high optical throughput.

Japan in the second half of the 20th century brought about expansion of scientific civilization with technical development. Industry progressed and the advanced information society. However, as a result, pollution was also brought about. Now, in addition to material pollution, it is thought that mental pollution also exists simultaneously with it. Combining various data with the mental disease, we stressed the existence of “mental pollution.”
