Dormant seeds of Mentha arvensis L. var. piperascens MAL (Japanese mint, 2n=96) and those of induced tetraplaid plant (2n=192) were subjected to X-ray treatment. As to the chromosome aberration and also in the germination rate of seed, the original Japanese mint suffered heavier damages by X-ray irradiation than induced tetraploid one, so the latter seemed to show a higher tolerance against X-ray irradiation than the former. In the X
2 generation following X-irradiation there observed in adition to chlorophyll mutants various kind of aberrant plants which were presummably mutants. No specific relation was found between the aberration spectrum in X
2 and the dosage, or the fertility of X
1.
