This paper focuses on developing and enhancing the Web-based Leaching and self-learning systems to achieve remarkable improvement in the extreme diversification of student's attributes. The Web application synthesizes effective concepts and features of a futuristic education system. Some essential requirements are also proposed to enhance and guarantee the high-quality engineering education for Japanese private universities. In addition, this paper introduces not only tools and managing of Web-based learning system but also the newly proposed an effective engineering education solution for masses of class. The important roles of Web-based teaching and learning system are also discussed to lead to the creation of distinctive, attractive education systems.
Engineers and general workers have been internationalized by getting jobs around the world according to the recent economic globalization. Six countries signed the Washington Accord in 1989, which recognizes the substantial equivalence of the accreditation systems for the engineering education programs among the organizations of the signatories. In 2001, Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education was established and now is advancing to join the Washington Accord as a member. As for the development of products and manufacturing, not only scientists and engineers but also technicians are indispensable. The higher vocational education for technicians is now becoming important for the technicians to play a role in the borderless manufacturing world. In Japan, the Polytechnic University and Colleges make higher vocational education for engineers and technicians under the authority of the administration of Health, Labor and Welfare. In the present paper, the higher educational training programs for engineers and technicians being made in the Polytechnic College are examined and compared with the standard programs in Canada in order to search the possibility of multinational agreement in these fields.
The collection-of-books search system has been designed by ourselves in Sendai National College of Technology since 1997 when the multimedia university pilot project started. It has a PC-based database system at SNCT library and a Web-based collection-of-book research engine. The system has some simple features to put new books into the database, to search a book by using OR and AND operations of keys and to display in the web screen where the book is at the library. We show that students in our college drop by more often and lend more books at the library than before 2000. The system has been doing well for the last three years and is much cheaper than any other systems used in other thirty National College of Technology.
北海道大学大学院工学研究科社会工学系では,2000年に,留学生向けに英語を使用言語として学位取得が可能なコース(EGPSEE : English Graduate Program in Socio-Environmental Engineering)を設置した.EGPSEEの設置は,留学生の工学教育のみならず,日本人学生の英語教育としても意味を持つと考えられる.2003年に文部科学省が公表した,日本人の英語能力を向上させるためのアクションプランには,英語による特別コースへの参加の促進が含まれている.EGPSEEが発足して3年以上が経過したので,修士課程を修了間際の日本人学生を対象に,日本人学生にEGPSEEがどのような影響を与えたかを,アンケートにより調査した.本論文は,英語教育についての学生の意見,期待,体験的事実,および,筆者の仮説と提言を示したものである.
Faculty of engineering in Kanagawa University implemented the evaluation on teaching method in 2003. The committee of faculty development in it analyzed this large data to pick up valuable information to be utilized to brush-up teaching, and the following is revealed. Answer sheets on which all answers are marked the same for several questions with weak correlativity can be recognized as irresponsible answers. The weakness of teaching can be picked up comparing the marks for plural questions with strong correlativity. Overall rating tends to be higher for classes larger percent of students being present. Forced self-teaching will not lower the rating and it is desirable for teachers to recommend self-teaching freely to their students.
