    For many years, the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and others have been studying the role of the engineer and engineering education in the 21st century. More specifically, the organization has looked at changes needed to effectively address these evolving roles; their recommendations are included in a definitive report titled Transforming Engineering through Educational Scholarship. As the practice of engineering becomes increasingly global, ASEE is strengthening its connections to the worldwide engineering education community. Of particular note is ASEE’ s leadership in the development of the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES). ASEE has also been working with other engineering education societies to sponsor a series of global colloquia on engineering education in a variety of countries. The engineering profession is critical to economic development, quality of life, and security of all countries. The ASEE must work with other engineering organizations to advance the image of engineering and to draw more people into the profession.

    Accreditation of the degree programmes in Engineering is surely an argument which stimulates a great interest not only in the Italian level but above all in the European perspective. It appears strategic that Europe is equipped with a system which permits to compare the degree programmes in Engineering offered by various universities in Europe also in view of a major competition in the area of higher education in the European Union, in comparison with third countries. This appears the principal basis of different actions financed by the European Commission, which have among their own objectives also the study of an accreditation system of the degree programmes in Engineering in Europe. In this article 3 SOCRATES Thematic Networks are presented, which, one after the other, starting from 1998, have been operational in the European panorama. Among their objectives there is a recurrent motive: accreditation of the degree programmes in Engineering in Europe.

    In 1973, the author established the Nippon Bell Parts Co., Ltd. in Funabashi-city under his estimation of the advances in communication, information, semiconductor and automotive industries, then he has focused on R&D and developed the manufacturing of precise parts. During the past 30 years, he has himself experienced the importance of the mutual exchange between Japan and China and Korea, for keeping the human capability as well as for the management and the technical development to avoid a bankruptcy. The author is intentionally acting for the education of craftsmen in small and medium-sized manufacturing industries.

    In the 21st century as information society, to increase the advancement rate of high capable students in science and engineering majors, we can consider the sociological, economical and psychological aspects of the problem. So, we need promote the gifted and talented students in elementary and secondary education, and through such improving measures we need plan to reform the trend of avoiding science and engineering courses. And also, we have to develop diverse education programs to get higher competence. We have to develop the programs for female students with the help of the experts. We have to establish the career guidance system. As a whole, we have to aim both the specialization and diversification of the education system for improving quality of the education. And by analyzing the difficult situation of finding job for college student in South Korea, we have to devise countermeasures for long-term graduate unemployment. In this article, I will introduce the Korean case of an analysis of the trend of avoiding science and engineering courses and the case of recent job-hunting situations of college students.

    The career educational program of Anan College of Technology was adopted in 2006 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan as the Support Program for Distinctive University Education (Good Practice in Modern Educational Needs) . The original program of career education is operated for students in lower grades and the support system is provided for the recruiting activity of students in the higher grades. Students can be instilled with a sense of purpose by receiving education regarding the structure of industrial society as an early step of the curriculum.

    The purpose of this report is to exclude risk factors based on the instance of Hiyari Hatto (near-miss accidents) experienced by school personnel and students and to make the environment in which students can participate safely in the class and extracurricular activities. By means of the risk assessment and KYT (training for predicting dangers, K : Kiken, Y : Yochi, T : Training) , it has been considered how the college should control the students′ experiments. As a result, the students have been able to work on the experiments without affecting the school facilities and the students′ working site, and the number of injuries has decreased.

    Educational systems promoting the independent and sustainable work for the engineering design were constructed. These systems consisted of a point system of the practice technology, rules of the selection for two courses of Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, an educational system for fostering abilities of the engineering design and evaluations by outsiders of the work produced through the engineering design. As a result of synergistic effects by these systems, it was confirmed that the practice ability and the continual improvement ability for the engineering design were improved.

    The purpose of this paper is to propose what is necessary for institutions of higher education to succeed in contributive activities for the local community. First, an outline of status quo of such activities is provided. Next, a discussion of how our college plans, organizes and performs such activities with “the Planning and Coordination Office” and “the Division of Cooperation with the Local Community” as the central divisions will be offered. Following this, clarification of some of the problems to be solved in regard to the activities is discussed. Finally, it is argued that organizational and continuous approaches are essential to make the activities successful.

    A teaching material which has been often utilized in engineering education and research, is chosen in the introduction to ‘Use of computers’ and ‘Programming and Instrument & Control’ studies in junior high schools. Concretely, a helicopter model which is one of mechanical systems, is used as a teaching material, and education effects in understanding and the interest for control technology are examined. As a result, the teaching material and the class composition that leads the cultivation of a technological nature and the ability, is effective for junior high school students to improve the interests for technology and engineering.

    This paper discusses how to improve oral presentation skills of students of engineering design courses based upon the PDCA cycle. In this paper the authors proposed a method to improve the presentation skills as follows. We gave assignments to evaluate their presentation skill by observing videos of their presentation. We encouraged our students to feedback the evaluation into the following presentation. By repeating the evaluation and feedback cycle, students achieved considerable progress in oral presentation.
