    In order to achieve SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), from the stage of elementary school, the children have to increase their motivation of energy and environmental education and work on the practice of energy and environment conscious behavior, otherwise ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) in the higher education institution cannot be put into practice. In this study, for the elementary school students, the possibility of improving awareness of energy and environmental issues and performing their conscious behavior was investigated by manufacturing the wind car. As a result, it was clear that the students not only became interested in energy and environmental issues, but also actually tended to perform their conscious behavior. And they came to work independently, responsibly, cooperatively and decisively.

    As an urgent issue, current education and training institutions are required to deal with the new coronavirus disease 2019. Against this background, it is necessary for any instructors to easily create teaching materials that can be quickly switched to distance learning at the minimum cost. This paper describes teaching materials development method that uses existing software and tools. Distance learning utilizes cloud computing. Based on these policies, we have created injection molding mold design teaching materials that students studying molds can learn while self-checking their understanding. With these texts, explanatory materials, and recorded teaching materials, the design process can be systematically grasped. Therefore, students studying mold design can easily understand. In addition, since these teaching materials are digital data, they can also be used as implementation reports to appeal in job hunting. The instructors who use these teaching materials repeat editing according to the vocational training. Thus, it will be highly effective training materials.

    This paper examines the results of a quantitative survey conducted on elementary and junior high school teachers with the aim of clarifying the background of the low proportion of women in managerial positions. The survey results show that there is a large gender gap in the division of roles in family life, and this gap also affects their attitudes towards getting managerial positions. They also reveal that gender stereotypes are widely accepted by teachers. Gender inequality among teachers can have a negative impact on students, such as providing disproportionate leader models and promoting their biased sense of values. This paper suggests the importance of engineering education from a gender perspective for school teachers to support female students to choose their science and engineering careers, which is one of the challenges for gender equality in the field of science and technology.

    AI skills are important skills that all people, not just engineers, need to acquire in the future. AI skills may be very interesting for students in informatics departments, but not so much for students in non-informatics departments. To implement basic AI education in schools that include both informatics and non-informatics departments, it is necessary to consider each department’s characteristics, as well as the learning topics and teaching tools. In this paper, we report the results of our basic AI education using MATLAB in the National College of Technology (KOSEN).

    The purpose of this paper is to reveal how English teaching materials for engineering students were developed on the basis of authentic research data collected from engineers. The way in which we developed the teaching materials involved the following four steps ; 1) interviewing and brainstorming with engineers for making dialogues at each of the four levels of English expressions for manufacturing, which were specified in the foregoing related study (Tanaka, 2017), and producing roleplay videos ; 2) interviewing and video-recording at an actual production site overseas ; 3) producing lesson handouts for students utilizing the 4Cs flamework of CLIL (Coyle et al., 2010) ; and 4) teaching postgraduate students with the use of the newly developed CLIL materials, and obtaining students’ feedback from questionnaires and interviews.

    In this paper, we describe our activities on student competitions conducted by connecting multiple universities online. By combining online lectures, tutorials, and various types of groupwork, undergraduate student participants from 11 universities worked together to propose their original ideas in a short period of time. The results were evaluated by faculty members from 16 universities and institutes based on objective criteria. Mixing the students and instructors of various backgrounds promoted open communication and formation of human network among them. Quantitative analysis of various indices elucidated the educational effect of the competition.

    In this paper, we focused on researchers in the engineering field and examined the relationship between career self-reliance and the experience of writing research papers. We conducted a questionnaire survey on the research paper writing experience and career self-reliance for researchers in the engineering field who had experience as professors in higher education institutions. As a result, we found that “A sense of achievement and growth experience gained by writing a research paper” affects both “Psychological aspects of career self-reliance” and “Behavioral aspects of career self-reliance”. Especially, the survey results demonstrated that “A sense of achievement and growth experience gained by writing a research paper” affects “Professional self-efficacy” and “Adaptation behavior to changes in the work environment”.

    The Tokyo Metropolitan vocational skills development center provides knowledge, techniques, and skills necessary for job search for people who found a new job, search for a job, or hope to change jobs. 3D CAD・CAM processing course is to provide knowledge and skill with a wide range of manufacturing technology. We proposed a new lesson for drafting digital data by 3D CAD and processing manufacturing techniques. This lesson is creative and original theme using 3D printer and trial products by 3D printer for producing by NC machines. As a result, it was made clear that this lesson had the good effects for the students to acquire drafting and machining skills.

    This paper reports the introduction of PBLs for social implementation as compulsory subjects, the efforts in first year practice, and the analysis of their effects. In the first half-year for the fourth grade students in KOSEN, “Social Implementation Project I” is placed to learn the importance of finding issues through case studies of social Implementations and to understand the relationship between technology and society. In the latter half-year, “Social Implementation Project Ⅱ” is placed, in which students work on social implementation as a team in collaboration with partners inside or outside of our campus. It shows the fact which the student’s self-evaluation of generic skills was improved by the student’s experience of PBLs. The fact that the student’s PROG scores were improved by the experience of PBLs suggests that PBLs for social implementation have the effect of improvement of the student’s competency. It shows that the analysis in this paper provides quantitative evidence for the effects of PBL for social implementation on human resource development.

    Because students could not go to school due to COVID-19 infection, we gave an on-demand lecture on physical education. A questionnaire survey was conducted on the lecture, and the lecture was evaluated by students. From the results of the questionnaire survey, it was found that the students were highly satisfied with the lectures and that they also improved their physical strength. There were also efforts to discover issues on their own and resolve those issues. Future lecture improvements will be to create content that takes into consideration the diversity of students and to exchange opinions with students in on-demand lectures.

    During the early days of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), campuses with departments that support social infrastructure were set up nationwide for the purpose of training “practical and central role engineers”. After that, prior to the arrival of the information society, departments in fields such as “information” and “electronics” will be established. The establishment of those departments was an action that predicted the current society. Currently, as the use of AI and IoT accelerates, problems and troubles that have never experienced in society are occurring. From now on, NIT will be required to develop “practical scientific engineers” who have the ability to solve the problems of modern society and open up a new era.

    Japanese sword is one of Japan’s world-class traditional craft technologies, and is also called “art of iron”. Currently, the history, technique, and art of Japanese sword are being handed down through daily studies/ disciplines (trainings) by swordsmiths, sword polishers and so on. With these backgrounds, Kanazawa Institute of Technology signed a partnership agreement with the Sakaki town (Nagano prefecture), which is known as “Iron town” in 2015, and has been developing various projects. One of these projects is a collaborative project with the “Iron exhibition hall” in the Sakaki town, and the authors and our students participate in this collaborative project and try to design novel Japanese swords with the science of “craftsmanship” as the keyword. It is thought that these activities will contribute to the engineering education of students based on “developing new ideas based on study of the past”. In this paper, we discuss the contents and results of educating well-rounded students through the science of craftsmanship by this collaborative project in which the authors have performed with our laboratory students for six years. As a result, it was clarified that it was possible to provide students with valuable experiences, including many failures and successes through this project. Therefore, these activities are one essential of as a new effective method of engineering education
