No-tillage in double cropping (corn for silage in summer and feed turnip, wheat and barley in winter) was compared with conventional tillage on the sequence of field operations and the labor requirement. The approved sequence of field operations in no-tillage was similar to the sequence in conventional tillage except spraying contact herbicide before or after seeding. No-tillage cut labor 53% in fully mechanized wheat and barley production but cut labor only 27% in partially mechanized feed turnip production. The possibility of earlier seeding and expansion of cropping area by no-tillage was discussed.
