In order to evaluate the effect of mechanical weeding for vegetable using rotary cultivator, chinese cabbage was directly planted in the field and cultivated through April to July.
By the experimental results, it was evident that practice of mechanical weeding finally brought less weed volume and larger harvest products than no weeding. The relation between final fresh weights of remaining weed (Xgm/0.6m
2) and harvest products (Ygm/0.6m
2) is as follows;
Y=10062-3.08X(r=0.91*)
This equation means that the maximum potential crop yield will be approximately 10kg/0.6m
2 without weed and the existance of weed will decrease the crops by approximately 3gm in every 1gm of increasing weed volume toward the minimum estimated crops of 6.5kg without weed control. But by the operation of the rotary cultivator within one week before the harvest time, the implement considerably damaged plant body, and so many practices of weeding operation -for example more than four times in this period- brought bad influence on the growth of chinese cabbage.
This weeding method could act more effectively upon the winter growing weed group with wide leaves and creeping character rather than upon the summer growing weed group with swordlike leaves and vertical character.
When rearranging the experimental results, it will be needed to establish the accurate weed control technology and system including cross cultivation.
