    By an air permeability measurements, we tried to evaluate the difference of soil conditions in a field among the three tillage implements, a rotary tiller, a moldboard plow and a subsoiler.
    The results of our study are as follows.
    1. The soil aeration was effected by precipitation. The effect of tillage on the soil aeration was admonished for the amount of accumulated rainfall from 150mm to 200mm after tillage.
    2. The soil aeration indexed showed the best soil tillage aeration at the plowed plot. The indexed decreased quickly after tillage. It indicated that aeration affect didn't remain long period of time in the plowed plot. The moisture content of soil in plowed plot was wide range and tend to changes in lower moisture content range.
    3. The amount of soil aeration by rotary tillage were about 2/3 of that by plowing. The duration of tillage effect by the rotary tillage was approximately 1/2 shorter than that by the plowing.
    The rotary-tilled plot had the characteristics for the high moisture content of soil and bad drainage.
    4. The moisture contents at the rotary-tilled plot was changed by a subsoiler.
    5. The plowing improved the both of aeration and permeability of the soil and the subsoiling improved only the permeability by breaking up the deep layer.

    We must pursue the possibility of a large scale paddy farming in order to cope with import liberalization of rice, the price fall of the independence circulation rice under the new food law, and so on.
    As agricultural machineries have adbanced in high-performance at the present time, For realization of the large scale paddy farming, how to mechanize and lighten farm workings, such as raising of seedling, conveyance of many trays to nursery, mowing of balk, control, water management and so on, are important problems.
    Even if it could shorten the workings, it is unable to avoide that a lot of work concentrate at the period of transplanting and harvesting in the paddy field, which is a obstructive factor to enlarge the scale of farming.
    Fortunately, it's enough warm to make early season culture of rice in the southwestern warm region of Japan, so combination of early season and normal season cultures of rice makes a lot of work disperse.
    In the warm region, the reduction of the number of needful seedling trays by introduction of sparse planting culture seems to be quite effective in lightening the labor for raising of seedling and conveyance of the trays to nursery.
    Futher, to leave rice plants standing in the paddy field after their maturing stage makes possible to harvest not only in autumn but also in winter.
    It is suggested that establishing these methods largely contribute to realize a large scale paddy farming of rice for the 21th century.
  • 1.現地調査結果による圃場内旋回方式との比較

    To raise the work efficiency of field work, the standard-turning (turning in the field=S. T.) type paddy field have been remaking into farm-road-turning (use farm road for turning=F. R. T.) type paddy field at northern area in Miyagi Pref.. The work efficiency of field works which were done at the F. R. T. type paddy field were compared with those by the S. T.. The results are as follows;
    1) When the face of slope along by the farm road are used as head land in tillage, average turning time of return works are almost same as the S. T. That turning way is useful for raising work efficiency of the F. R. T.
    2) It's important to make short the average turning time of return works for rice transplanter to get into the paddy field smoothly at the time when that's reserve-seedling-trays are filled.
    3) As the head land works aren't needed in the case of rice transplanting, it lead to omit the turning time for that works. This is useful for raising work efficiency of the F. R. T..
    4) As the paddy rice of field's corners can be harvested and threshed by operating combine in the F. R. T. type paddy field, the turning time of head land works is shortened very much as compared with the S. T. So, the work efficiency of harvesting in the F. R. T. type one is higher even if the same working-stroke the S. T. is done.
    5) In harvesting, the consideration of working stroke based on grasp the time required of many kinds of turning by using combine is useful to make short the turning time. And it lead to raise the work efficiency.

    In order to make a mechanization possible in citrus orchard in slope land, the orchard path construction by a simple soil stabilization technique was developed.
    1) The minimum width of orchard path arranged with a space of 5 to 10 meters in contour was about 80 centimeters from both sides of the trafficability of the transport vehicles and a present state of sloped land. The density of orchard path was amounted to 100 to 200 meters per 10 ares.
    2) The surface stabilization technique holding together cement, special setting material (Soiler) with on-the-spot soil was considered to be enough for farm roads, which may be cheep and easy to construct. The optimum mixing rate was 13% of cement and 0.3% of setting material.
    3) This simple soil stabilization technique by farmers using such as machines like the small size buckhoe, the spreader and the rotary tiller was so simple and less expensive.
