    Electrolyzed water, considered much less harmful than chemical fungicides, is used for sanitation in hospitals and dental clinics. Now it is of great interest in agriculture and it is used experimentally by some farmers and growers. However, scientific research is yet few. The following experiments were carried out to reveal the efficiency of electrolyzed water in controlling powdery mildew on cucumber.
    Anode water solely or alternately with cathode water was sprayed in intervals of two to four days. The two controls were no fungicide spraying and conventional fungicide spraying.
    Electrolyzed water, though not as effective as fungicides, apparently reduced powdery mildew on cucumber leaves from 16 days after planting for about two weeks. The day after spraying Brix of fruits from plants sprayed with anode water was higher than Brix of fruits from fungicide sprayed plants and non-sprayed plants.

    Establishment of direct seeded paddy rice on well drained paddy field in Hokkaido in Japan shows low percentage because of low temperature. In this paper, we investigated about the relationship between some seeding conditions and percentage of seedling establishment. The most affectable factor to establishment of rice seedlings was seeding depth, below 3cm seeding depth gave lower percentage. Coated seed with calcium peroxide showed higher percentage, indicating effectiveness of that material on even if well drained paddy field. From those seeding conditions, we induced the multiple regression equation having 79% contribution ratio. Therefore, we discussedthis equation for actual adaptation and simulated for regulation of seeding rate.

    In order to make a guideline for selecting an appropriate operation system for citrus production in sloping orchards, the decision support system, which was based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process method, was developed by using the Visual Smalltalk. The process of decision making by using the support system was shown.
    The three types of production systems, which are a facility type, a riding machinery type and a walking machinery type, were analyzed. The facility type is composed mostly of sprinkler pipelines and monorail transport lines. The riding machinery type is constituted mainly of a speed sprayer and a light truck. The walking machinery type is composed of an air-blast sprayer and a crawler type transporter in the main. The hierarchical structure concerned with decision making process was constructed, and then the following results were obtained through the survey on orchard managers by using the decision support system.
    1) To select the appropriate one from the three production systems, the connection roads to orchards and the gradients of fields should be considered.
    2) The works of chemical application and transportation are especially demanded to rationalize.
    3) Managers having comparatively a large household scale in gentle sloping areas select the riding machinery type. The facility type is selected by managers having comparatively a large household scale in steep sloping areas and having the demand financial supports. Managers having a smaller household scale in steep sloping areas select the walking machinery type.

    We are proposing a new farm path system -rib pattern- and small machinery for steep sloping citrus orchards. They were very effective in reduction of hardness and hours of work.
    1) The new farm path system for the small machines includes two kinds of path, a work path and a connection road with a width of 1.0 to 1.3m. The connection roads acts as a backbone, while work paths are attached laterally to the backbone. To make sure that machines can travel safely along the paths, the surface of the paths should be paved and the gradient should be less than 15 degree. The improvement of the system didn't cause yield reduction in spite of some thinning of citrus trees.
    2) An air-blast sprayer, a lift transporter and a side distributor were proposed for steep sloping orchards. We could cut works by 35% and reduce the hardness of works without decline the quality of fruits.

    1) It was tried to estimate the corm separability in different varieties of taro. ‘P51’, ‘TC’, ‘Ishikawa-wase’, and ‘Kyoto No. 2’ were used in this experiment. ‘TC’ is a variety obtained from shoot tip culture of ‘Egu-imo’ and ‘P51’ is a mutant variety obtained from shoot tip of ‘Egu-imo’ treated with PFP. Three clusters of corms were put into a concrete mixer of which diameter is 75cm, and the mixer was rotated about 20RPM. The degree of separation of corms were observed at 60 seconds after beginning of the treatment. The percentage of the corms separated to single corm is about 90 in ‘P51’, and about 70 in other varieties. It was indicated that corms of ‘P51’ were more easily separable than those of the other varieties.
    2) Labor saving for the harvest preparation of taro corm was tried by using ‘P51’. Seed corms were planted in April 24 of 1996 and corms were harvested in November 25. Time for corm separation by hand was clocked. The time taken for separation per corm of ‘P51’ was shorter than that of ‘TC’ at 20 percentage.
