    In interactive geometric modeling, it is a key operation for a user to specify precisely an arbitrary point of interest in a computer-generated 3D finite work space. We point out that traditional ways of projection transformation have several difficulties in performing the above operation, which is called 3D pinpoint in this paper. In order to alleviate the 3D pinpoint difficulties, we propose L-reps (Lines representations) as a new geometric transformation model for standard 2D displays. L-reps is a 2D drafting-oriented geometric model, and a generalization of conventional lines: a 2D engineering drawing which has been commonly used for the design of ship hulls or automobile bodies. We provide here the data definition and manipulations of L-reps. Also, we present a methodology for utilizing L-reps in a solid modeling environment. Two-way conversion algorithms between B-reps and L-reps are developed as principal components of the hybrid modeling scheme, where precise and aesthetic design tasks can be performed simultaneously. A pilot geometric modeling system is implemented on the basis of the hybrid scheme. The feasibility of our approach is demonstrated with a camera design example on the system.

    This paper presents three kinds of new C2 Akima curves: (1) which preserves the global shape of the C1 Akima curve, (2) which preserves directions of Akima's tangents and (3) which is closest to the C1 Akima curve from the point of the method of least squares. These curves are useful in the field of smooth curve fitting, computer graphics and computer aided geometric design, because these generate less oscillating global shape and can have straight line sections incorporated in themselves. These are also locally controllable and generated span - by - span. The new curves are based on the quartic S- splines with all the knots of multiplicity 2, which are obtained by degree - elevation in each span of the cubic interpolating B- splines. The relevant additional control points are determined on the basis of the local estimation scheme of tangents by Akima. For practical use, properties of these curves are analyzed in detail theoretically and experimentally.

    In general, when developing a round solid such as a sphere, there are three wellknown ways of doing so. The zone method cuts the surface of the sphere in a holizontal parallel line ; the meridian method vertically cuts the sphere through the poles the triangular method develops the sphere by considering its surface as a triangular mass. Based on these methods, this study attempts to classify the development structures which are led from various development patterns of a regular dodecahedron, and form solids using simple curved surfaces according to each development structure. Six development structures are selected as typical examples. a) is Horizontal development structure, b) is Vertical development structure, c) is Inclined development structure, d) is Spiral development structure, e) is Reticulate development structure, f) is Wave-like development structure. Many other expression are hidden in the transformation process from multi - curved to single curved surfaces. Various development patterns may be obtained from a single model. The formation of an object from a development pattern may differ in image according to the development method.
