After statistical researches into the relationship of farm products, vegetables and fruits per head by city, town and village in Tochigi Prefecture in 1975 to the cor rected rate of death by city, town and village i n the same prefecture in 1975, the subordinate population index in 1975, the rate of longevity and the aged population index in 1975, we have come t o the following conclusions.1) The corrected rate of death by city, town and village in 1975 closely resembles the distribution of that of five years ago. Namely, the zone of relatively low corrected mortality extends along the National Tohoku Line and the Private Tobu Line from the southeast to the northwest.2) The subordinate population index in 1975, the rate of longevity and the aged population index resemble the distribution of those of five years ago, and so no remarkable differences can be seen between them.3) As to the relation of farm products, vegetables and fruits per head by city, town and village to the corrected rate of death, sweet peppers show negative correlation at the statistically significant level of 5%, and green field peas show positive correlation at the statistically significant level of 5%.4) As t o the relation of farm products, vegetables and fruits per head by city, town and village to the subordinate population index, soybeans, azuki beans and konnyakuimo show positive correlation at the statistically significant level of 1%, 1% and 5% respectively, and cabbages and spinach show negative corre lation at the statistically significant level of 5%.5) As to the relation of farm products, vegetables and fruits per head by city, town and village to the rate of longevity, potatoes, soybeans, azuki beans, Welsh onions, ume apricots and konnyakuimo show positive correlation at the statistically significant level of 1% respectively, and rice, cucumbers and persimmons show positive correlation at the statistically significant level of 5% respectively.6) As to the relation of farm products, vegetables and fruits per head by city, town and village to the aged population index, potatoes, sweet potatoes, soybeans, azuki beans, Welsh onions, persimmons and konnyakuimo show positive correlation at the statistically significant level of 1% respectively, and rice and lettuces show positive correlation and negative correlation at the statistically significant level of 5% respectively.

As one of the earliest public health practices in Japan, Rural Health Survey had been carried out in 143 villages from 1918 through 1927 (from Taisho 7 to Showa 2). The authors obtained the Reports of the Survey and have made a follow-up study on the subject of physiques of children among those investigated in the Survey. In this study, mean deviations of heights and weights of six to eleven year-old children in 19 villages from the national mean height and weight were calculated and compared with each other and also with some environmental indices. At the same time, the mean deviations of the heights and weights were compared with those of six primary schools placed in the districts selected from the said 19 villages in 1971, in order to examine the change of the status of the children's physiques. The results are as follows:1) there were significant differences in physiques of children among the rural villages;2) the mean deviations of the physiques of boys in a village from the national mean was fairly close to that of girls in the same village in the Taisho Era except for a few villages, whereas those of boys and girls in 1971 were far less close with each other;3) there was a positive correlation between heights of children and average amounts of money used for purchase of animal foods in a village in the Taisho Era and4) there was a negative correlation between heights of children and infant mortality in a village in the Taisho Era.
