The fluorescence spectra of adriamycin (ADM) observed in DNA solution. The fluorescence intensity was quenched by DNA molecules.
The uptake of ADM by KK-47 cells cultivated from human bladder career tissue was investigated with fluorescence measurement at various incubation times. It was found that the intracelluar concentrations of A DM incorporated into the plateau-phase cells was larger than that into the exponen-tially growing cells. Although high concentration in the plateau- phase cells, the chemotherapic cytoto-xicity effect was lower than that in the exponentially growing cells.
Furthermore, the exponentially growing cells incorporated ADM were irradiated with an argon-ion laser light (488.0nm, 0.78mw/cm2) for various times. It was found that photosensitized effect of ADM was presented in the cells incorporated ADM besides the chemotherapeuic effect of ADM.
It was suggested that the combination effect of chemotherapy and photodynamic therapy of ADM were very usefull for clinical application.
