23, 979 patients have been examined in our clinic from 1975 to 1979; among them, 1, 055 patients (4.4%) or 1, 111 cases were sports-related injuries and disorders. These cases were classified according to : 1) Sex, male 68.9%, female 31.1%. 2) Age, twenties 43.3 %, latter half of teens 20.6 %, thirties 13.1 %, early half of teens 11.3 %. 3) Type of trauma, fracture 28.7 %, sprain 24.0 %, contusion 9.8 %, low back pain 6.9 %. 4) Region affected, knee 13.2%, finger 12.9%, ankle 11.8%, shoulder 10.9% and back 10.2%. 5) The sports events and frequent injuries were that : skiing 17.0% (lower leg fracture 21.2%, knee sprain 16.8%, ankle sprain 12.3 %), baseball 13.4% (fracture, sprain and dislocation of the finger 23.0%, ankle sprain 5.5 %), football 13.4% (fracture and sprain of the ankle 21.3%), ruggby football 4.5%, volley-ball 7.0%, basket-ball 6.2%, judo 4.1% (dislocation of the acromio-clavicular joint 27.9%), golf 3.4% (low back pain 27.8%), tennis 2.8% (knee sprain 30.0%, tennis elbow 20.0%) Each sports event has features and frequency, regions and types of trauma related to itself. And it is very useful to know these tendencies in diagnosis and treatment of sport-related injuries and disorders.
