In most cases, the frictional resistance of a block brake is assumed to be due to a single concentrated force acting at the center of the brake shoe. But, as in the case of a large post brake, when the angle subtended by a shoe at the drum center is not small, the error due to this simplified assumption will not be negligible. In the present paper, the problem is solved taking the angle βinto account, and giving a numerical example.
