On this paper the author reports : - (i) tension test of cast lead, (ii) tensile elongation of annealed lead, (iii) tensil stress of annealed lead. And the brittleness number and the ductility number of general metals are proposed as following ; Let X, Y, Z. be the principal stresses and e_χ be the strain parallel to the axis of χ at a point in the material. If we have the condition, |X|>|Y|>|Z| then, brittleness number B can be defiened as B=100×(1-|e_χ|) measured at the beginning of local deformation on any mechanical rupture and ductility number D can be done as D=100×|e_χ| measured at the maximum load on the tension test.

The yielding of mild steel beam can not be explained by any of the theories hitherto existed. The object of this paper is to propose a new theory which can explain the phenomena of yielding of mild steel. The author considers that it is a problem of stability, and is analogous to the critical point of viscous flow through a pipe. Thus all the stress distribution must have the effect on the yield point. At the yield point the elastic part yields in succession under a constant bending moment, and thus the diagram showing the relation between the bending moment and the deflection becomes horizontal during the yielding of the whole length. So the moment at this horizontal part must be taken as the yield point. This yield point can be calculated from the fact that the stress is uniform in the part where two states, one yielded and the other not yet yielded, exist mixedly. The strain of an yielding part shifts suddenly from the elastic strain to the plastic strain which is definite for the material and is very large compared with the elastic one, so from the continuity we must consider that when a part yields some adjoining parts must also yield. From this fact the yield point can also be calculated. The calculated values were confirmed by experiments.

Es wird die Anderung der Horizontal-Geschwindigkeit gegenuber der ungestorten Stromung an der Vorderseite eines Flugzeugrumpfes quantitativ berechnet, um die Propeller den geanderten Stromung verhaltnissen anpassen zu konnen. Im ersten Teil wird die Verteilung der Horizontal-Geschwindigkeit an der Vorderseite eines Ha1bkorpers und eines geschlossenen Rotations-korpers von angenahernd rumpfformiger Form berechnet. Im zweiten Teil wird der Vorstrom fur eine vorgegebene praktisch gebrauchliche Rumpfform mittels der Karmanschen Methode bestimmt. Zum Schluss werden einige Betrachungen angestellt in welcher Weise die Verteilung der Schubes uber den Propeller in folge des durch den Schraubenstrahl verursachten zusatzlichen Rumpfwiderstandes abgeandert werden muss um eine Verschlechterung des Wirkungsgrades mog1ichst einzuschranken. An einem vereinfachten Fall wird quantitativ gezeigt, in welcher Weise sich der Wirkungsgrad des Propellers bei verschiedener Schubverteilung andert.
