Ambipolarity of the plasma diffusion across a magnetic field is experimentally checked by measurements of the longitudinal electric field in a “short” positive column.
Owinng to the “short circuit theory”, the plasma diffusion across the magnetic field is not ambipolar, but “intrinsic” for each. particle by means of the short circuit path formed in the plasma, when the ratio of the plasma dimension of the field parallel direction to that of the field parpendicular direction is rather small.
A change of the electric field of the positive column with the magnetic field.
Results of the field measurement show that there is nodiffusion due to the short circuit effect, and the diffusionis, ambipolar independent of the tube dimension.
