Large scale map data base for multipurpose uses is designed and mapping program package is developed for map data processing system.
Relational data base model is applied to forming map data base. The map data base consists of data of graphic features and those of cartographic symbols. The geographic features is described by position and shape of terrain, building, boundary etc., as well as attribute data of them. This sort of separated data handling makes the data base flexible for its aplications in different uses.
Mapping program package is used for providing output data for graphic representation.

Scan line noises attributed to small differences among responses of six detectors appear on LANDSAT MSS images. A linear transformation or a histogram equalization method is generally used to eliminate scan line noises from LANDSAT MSS images. However, these methods can not fully eliminate scan line noises, because of quantization errors.
This paper describes a method to correct these residual scan line noises by adding random noises in order to improve the image quality. Random noises cancel the quantization errors and allow to make histograms continuously for each detectors.

The spectral energy distribution for upward radiance from sea surface was measured by MSS spectrometer. From the MSS data, the color of sea was calculated on CIE chromaticity diagram.
Comparison between the estimated color of sea from MSS data and the color of sea classified by means of Forel color scale from the ship was attempted.
It was found that the conformity of hue between the Forel Scale and the estimated color of sea was good. But, if the MSS data contained path radiance, error of estimation for the color of sea was one number in the Forel scale lower than the color of sea classified from the ship.
