This article outlines IT innovation level of each phase of plant lifecycle activities, and points out that the most difficult challenge is elimination of information barrier between office design work and field work. Recent 3D data capture technology can remove this barrier. It's a time to promote true overall lifecycle 3D engineering more widely using this technology together with 3D CAD system.
3D laser scanner is utilized in plant measurement. The technique of being simply highly precise and compounding a high-density point cloud is required from a scanning position having much plant measurement for grasp of a pipe-line sequence or part arrangement. Recently, many large-sized plant buildings are planned, and some plans are realized (constructions are actually performed). In the construction of the large-sized plant, reduction of the initial investment fund is demanded. Particularly, the reduction of the building expenses is demanded. For the reduction of the cost, reduction of the labor is demanded. However, construction work still requires considerable skill and labor. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new systems and processes in order to reduce construction costs. In this paper, efficient methods for measuring in large plant construction introduced. The authors verified the efficiency of the measurement system by implementing them at the construction site of large plant construction.
Recently, various kinds of vector data have been widely used. Images as raster data also became popular, and then applications using the vector data and images simultaneously attract more interests. Such applications require registration of those data in a same coordinates system. This paper proposes a new orientation method combining the vector data with the images based on bundle adjustment. Since the vector data can be regarded as constraint condition, the bundle adjustment is extended to constrained non-linear optimization method. The constraint conditions are coincidence between lines extracted from images and the corresponding ones of vector data, and the proposed method is formulated as Lagrange's method of undetermined multipliers. Experiments with both synthetic and real data show that the proposed method is more accurate to errors caused by low accuracy of coordinates of feature points or GPS values than a method without constraint condition.
