This study shows clearly that the differences between korean 'CHIP'(家) and Japanese 'IE'(家) are conspicuous. The results of this study are as follows :
First, the meaning of Korean 'CHIP'(家) and the one of Japanese 'IE'(家) aren't same in all cases.
Second, the traditional family of Korea and Japan is same in terms of family members in a direct line. Japanese 'IE'(家) is manage connection but Korean 'CHIP' is blood connection, so two types of family are different greatly.
Third, Japanese 'IE'(家) follows the efficiency in inheritance and branch family and the status of the oldest son and the second and third son is flexible. Korean 'CHIP'(家) follows that the oldest son has all the rights including the right of ancestor worship ceremony in the first place and in the case of branch family the oldest son becomes the main family naturally.
