    The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the relation between high school students' career choice behavior and career choice skills, career choice self-efficacy. Structural equation modeling(SEM) with the results from Study 1 (participants: 1110 high school students) revealed that career choice skills influenced career choice behavior via career choice self-efficacy. Based on those results, study 2 examined the effects of experiences by career education and experiences based work. High school students (238 juniors) completed a questionnaire. The results showed that (a) learning of self-appraisal and gathering occupational information was related to career choice self-efficacy, and learning of how to do problem solving was related career choice skills, (b) that experience based work influenced career choice self-efficacy via positive feeling after experiences based work.

    We had an interview with career counselors at the institute of career services in order to study the process of career independence among young part-time jobbers who want to get full-time jobs. As the results of interview, it suggested that young part-time jobbers tend to have lack of self-understanding, difficulty of self-disclosure, and/or lower level of self-esteem reflecting the immaturity of internal career. Based on the results, we constructed the process model of career independence for young part-time jobbers. It suggested that the intervention of career counselor approached to whether behavior or consciousness, finally certain changes took place in internal career, and these changes caused the action to get full-time jobs.

    This study is aimed at exploring factors influencing the formation of vocational interests, using stepwise multiple regression analysis. Vocational interests were measured by Vocational Interests Inventory (Hu & Murakami, 2009), which was composed of four subscales: "Educational, medical and welfare", "Professional and clerical", "Technical and skilled", and "Art, media and service industry". The predictors were (a) two subscales of gender role attitudes ("Equalitarianism" and "Traditionalism"), (b) four subscales of work style ("Goal achievement and independence", "Family life and stability", "Self-actualization and philanthropic intentions", and "Status and success-in-life"), and (c) four subscales of self-efficacy ("Working with Ideas", "Working with Data", "Working with People", and "Working with Things"). These predictors were selected according to Wakabayashi & Munekata (2001). Data were collected from 512 Chinese senior high school students (234 males and 278 females), and subscales were constructed using exploratory factor analysis. Results obtained through separate analysis for each gender were similar to those of the total sample with sex serving as an additional predictor. While both work style and self-efficacy had significant effects on vocational interests, there were substantially more significant partial regression coefficients of subscales of self-efficacy relative to work style. On the other hand, gender role attitudes did not have significant effect, except for females, where equalitarian females exhibited lower scores on subscales corresponding to masculine occupations. Based on these results, our conclusion stresses the importance of providing vocational guidance through actual work experience.
